Potty 'hurts'

Any advice on what to do when your son says the potty hurts. He is showing so many signs and I'm in no rush as he's only 2.5 but every time he sits on the potty or toilets seats he claims they hurt him which of course they don't he just doesn't want to sit on them.

Distraction?? I’d bet that it doesn’t ‘hurt’ if you put the potty in front of the TV!

@InTheRainOnATrain I've tried infront of the tv and sometimes he will sit in it when he's still in his nappy but the second I remove it all hell breaks loose. Maybe it's best I give up for now.

Sometimes the edges do dig in! Many times ds had an indentation on his bum cheeks underneath! Have you tried toddler step and pointing in the loo direct?

Katiesaidthat · 23/07/2024 09:25

Well actually...the first one I bought pinched my daughter´s hips when she sat, I think it caught her at a spot where it was uncomfortable. She would comment on this. I searched online and found another with a different shape, and had zero comments from her. So do listen, would you like it if something hurt and people forced you to ignore said pain?

lemonsandpeaches · 23/07/2024 09:25

@Sunshineafterthehail yeah, he's happy to pee standing up and his favourite is in the garden 'watering' the plants but the second his bum touches it's a no. We bought him a padded seat for the loo and still nothing.

Oh in that case let him pee over the loo standing?! I’ve heard of people putting cheerios in the loo for aiming! And then why not let him choose his own toilet seat for poos? And scrap the idea of a little potty, they’re helpful especially if you don’t have a downstairs loo but definitely not necessary.

I remember the potty being uncomfortable- you often see toddlers putting their hands over the rims to stop them digging in.

Maybe there’s a better design out there?

This is a fisher price one.

I'll look into other designs. He's had 3 different ones and so far none have left a mark. I think it's his way of saying he doesn't like it.
