When did you child stop wearing nappies at night?

DS (turned 4 in August) has been dry at night for months. 2 weeks ago he said he didn't want to wear a nappy anymore. He's done really well, however the last 3 out of 4 nights he's had an accident (shout out to the Silent Night waterproof mattress protector - great product!).

When did your child/ren become dry at night? I'm not sure if we've been premature in not wearing nappies but he's done so well over the last few months we felt he was more than ready.

Eldest, still in at 8 but does have a fair bit of liquid overnight medically.
Twins were day dry at 3.5, and almost immediately we've had nearly consistently dry nappies but they're in pull ups for now.

DD potty trained herself at 2 and 1 month, very easy. Still soaks a pull-up every night at nearly 5. Very occasionally has a dry night but never twice in a row.

My DD was 3.5 when we discovered that she was waking dry and purposefully wetting her pull up rather than get up to go to the loo. I don’t know long it had been going on for. My DS is 2.5 and I strongly suspect he’s doing the same as he is always dry over his nap and his pull up is always dry when I check him as we’re going to bed. He’s staying in the pull ups until he’s a bit more independent with using the loo though as I can’t face being woken with an early morning panic dash to the bathroom.

Eldest child was trained at 26 months. She wired bedtime nappies for a gd while as I wasn't sure if she was peeing in it when she woke. Sometimes it felt warm when I took the nappy off lol. So coming up to 3 I thought these are going. We had a few accidents the first week then fine.

Youngest was trained at 28 months and didn't wear bedtime nappies by the end of the week. She kept waking screaming for a pee the first few nights then stopped waking but wld be dry everyday. I just went with it. We did have accidents maybe once every month or 2 on average for a spell. They stopped around 3.

Dry at night very reliably by 2 years 9 months. I did absolutely nothing to make that happen, I just realised DD’s pull up was increasingly dry in the morning. Daytime toilet trained at 2 years 2 months.

I'd say when they're consistently dry.

Ds1 - had 6 months of dryness at the start of potty training, then regressed. Was in pull ups til almost 7. Not wetting every night, but when he did it was a full huge wee, abd he dudnt even wake up.

Ds2 - as soon as potty training started, he was dry at night. 2.5yrs. He's wet the bed once since (he's 6)

DD's dry and clean during the day super early, at 18 months. But both kept pull ups overnight until 4.

I took away night nappies quite soon after day nappies with all of mine. All before 3. None of them had been consistently dry at night and they all still woke occasionally to use the potty at night once they were out of night nappies. I still go to the loo at night so I wasn't going to wait for them to be consistently dry. They only ever had a couple of accidents.

Ds1 was 10 years old - after seeing GP, continence nurse, a couple of years of medication and then an alarm.

Ds2 was dry day and night within a week of toilet training at 3 years

Ds3 was 8 years old - we skipped the GP etc and just used the alarm.

Ds1 and 3 are incredibly deep sleepers and there is a strong genetic pattern to night time wetting in my family so not really a surprise.

It is considered within the 'normal range' until they are about 7/8 years. In fact with ds1 when he was about 6/7 I knew there was at least 4 out of 30 children who were not dry at night and that was through incidental chats rather than asking everyone.

eric.org.uk is the best source of information.

My son is 8 years old and still wears a sodding nappy to bed. He’s not remotely bothered bout wearing one as in he’s not embarrassed at all, will gladly wee and poo in it and if I let him, he would still wear one during the day. I’m literally pulling my hair out as I have tried all the reward offering etc and nothing works 🤬

octodrive · 11/10/2023 23:29

If he has been dry at night for months and suddenly wetting I don't think the nappy or lack of is the issue. Have you had his urine dipped in case of a uti?

TheGriffle · 11/10/2023 23:57

Dd1 dry at night as soon as she was dry in the day at 3.5years.

Dd2, dry in the day by 3, still wears a pull up at night at 6 and it is always full in the morning so I know she’s not ready yet. She is a deep sleeper and when we tried for week with no pull up it was the early hours of the morning she was wetting so not a purposeful, can’t be arsed to get out of bed wee.
