Potty training under 2?

Has anyone managed it? My daughter is 22 months just and is showing lots of signs of being ready. She tells us if she’s doing a poo/done a poo and will also say if her nappy is wet, she then tries to take her nappy off and gets upset. She is also very interested when I use the toilet and says “my turn”

just looking for positive experiences really

Yes my eldest was literally just two … second one still not ready at 3.5 so I really think it’s just down to the individual child!

maybe strike whilst the iron’s hot and if it doesn’t work, you’ve got ages to revisit

Thanks! I just wasn’t sure it was even doable as all my friends with children said they were at least 3 when they were ready and are adamant DD won’t be yet

I've heard the window for opportunity when it is easiest is 20 to 30 months, depending on the child of course.

My eldest was 2 years 2 months and just declared she was done with nappies. She was dry day and night about 6 weeks later.
Other DC was a totally different kettle of fish 😁

My girls trained at 22 months and just turned 2 with no idea. Go for it.

Yes my youngest trained in Feb halfterm when she was about 19m. She had been weeing and pooing on the potty since Christmas and when I was off for half term I decided to go for it. Had 2 days bottomless, but because she already associated pottys and wee/poo from her older sibling we had no accidents. Then after that had loose joggers no pants, I reminded her when we were leaving the house, and if it had been a while since she last went.

She was totally fine, went to childcare the following week, no accidents.I've had 4 others who've trained between 2yrs 4m and 3yrs 1m. My second was completely dry bottomless for both wees and poos from 22m but we couldn't crackers clothes so she did a bit of both til 27m.

But yes 5th child was just ready, able to hold wees to get to a toilet, articulate that she needed a wee or poo.

Had she not been ready, I would have parked it and tried again in a few months or so.

She does have wee accidents when she's under the weather or very tired, but never has poo ones.

I've done it 3 times so totally doable! The first time was totally accidental DS1 was 22 months and a total pain about nappy changes, I was heavily pregnant and not full of fight so I said there's the potty off you go and it worked. DD was 19 months and DS2 was 23 months. I definitely think there's a sweet spot just around 2

YallaYallaaa · 16/07/2023 18:57

DD1 was nearly 2 when we trained her. She got it fairly quickly but has had regular accidents ever since (probably one a week on average, phases when there are more). She’s 3.5 now.

I don’t know whether this is because we did it too early, but I’ll be leaving it later for DD2

I trained DS at 20 months. It took until nearly 2 and half for him to start to self initiate but within 2 weeks of starting at 20 months he wasn’t having accidents so long as we took him to the loo every 90 minutes. Much more pleasant than dealing with nappies and so much easier training my eldest at nearly 3 because at that age they are stubborn and capable of holding it for ages. Good luck!

@YallaYallaaa Depends on why she has the accidents.

Mine leaves it to the absolute last minute to go to toilet sometimes so occasionally wets herself.

One of my nephews hated public toilets so would wet himself rather than use one.

They potted trained at different ages. Basically when both could articulate they wanted to use the potty/toilet.
