Poop problem 4.5yr old

DD is 4.5, we were a little late potty training as she didn't really have the signs she was ready - she has been a little behind with communication but can talk quite well now.
We had her mostly trained by Christmas, although haven't tried night training yet (she wears a pull up to bed that is always full of wee).
She's always struggled more with poo. For a while she seemed to be saving them until her night time pull up was on. We've been trying to get her to poop before bed but if it doesn't happen within 10 seconds she doesn't want to try anymore and it becomes hard work to get her to stay on the toilet. Sometimes we do have success though. Lately we've have a few day time accidents or near accidents- it seems like she doesn't know it's coming until its on its way out so if its reasonably solid and we're quick its just a little smear on her underwear but if it's not its a big messy problem.

I'm not sure what were supposed to do if she doesn't know she needs to poo before it starts coming out? Any advice? She starts school in September and I'm getting worried about it

She does have occasional wee accidents too but not nearly so often so I'm less worried about that.

Has anyone mentioned the possibility of ASD @Babynamehelp626?

Just wanted to ask as my DD struggled with communication and potty training and is now on the pathway.

It sounds like she’s constipated and the accidents are overflow. I would try the GP to check that and to explore the possibility of laxatives.
Otherwise bribery. Reward staying on the toilet for a timer of 5 minutes rather than the actual poo.

Google ERIC, have a look at their website and ring their free help line. They are an excellent source of support.

Go back to the potty and line it with a nappy.
And check for ASD, just so you can tick it off as a cause.
