Encouraging night dryness.

DD has just turned 3yrs, but has been successfully potty trained during the day for over a year now (she showed signs of readiness at 22 months so I gave potty training a shot, half expecting to have to shelve it and come back to it later, but she cracked it fully within about 3 weeks).

However, we are still having problems at nighttime. She will go a week or so without any nighttime accidents, then wet the bed four days in a row, sometimes more than once in a night.

I lift her at about 11.30-12.00 to sit on the potty but this doesn’t seem to make much difference

I’m not desperately worried as I appreciate that she is still very young, but I was wondering if any had any hints or tips to get her dry at night.

She is very young to be worried about this.

My tip would be not to bother! Just wait until you notice the nappies are dry first thing in the morning.

As PP’s have said I wouldn’t worry about this, our DD is 4 and is still not dry at night. It is very common for little ones that age to not be dry at night.

I’m not worried about it. I know she is still very young and it will likely resolve in time.

But she has been out of nappies for over a year and there isn’t a chance in hell of me persuading her back into them again. I have some really good bed pads and am pretty adept at a speedy sheet change in the middle of the night, however we are going camping this summer so am worried about dealing with a wet sleeping bag.

We camped last year when she had not been long out of nappies and just got lucky that she managed to stay dry for the nights we were away, but I don’t trust my luck to hold.

It's my understanding you can't train for nighttime dryness. It's a developmental thing and will happen when it happens. I'd leave her in pull ups for now

With my two (long time ago) nothing really , just keep lifting and putting on potty before you go to bed at night .

What about some nappy pants for camping and calling them “special camping pants” and explain to her that she needs to wear them in case she has an accident in the night.

Sorry but if she has started to have accidents again at night then I would be putting her straight back into nappies. You are the parent so if she doesn’t like it that’s tough. Maybe get a chart or explain to her if she wakes up dry 3 mornings in a row she can try without.

I was of the understanding that night time dryness was hormonal and couldn't be trained.

DS was still in night nappies at 4 and one day he just woke up and it was dry! After dry nappies for a week we went without and he's been fine. He'd been in pants during the day for a full year at that point and I thought it was never going to happen!
