Standing up wees

Not potty training but couldn't see where else to ask. My 3 year old is potty trained and starts school in September. At what age do boys start to wee standing up? I don't want him to start school and not be able to if all the other boys do. But we tried it once and he struggled. He wasn't really tall enough so didn't have the angle to aim in properly. I know they don't have to but just want to know whats usual.

Maybe try again? I'm sure there's no rush as boys at reception won't really care or notice. He'll probably need a step though as for aiming I found a ping pong ball in the loo really helped as it doesn't flush away and you can make it a game of hitting it?

My 3 never used a potty or did a sit down wee on the toilet, they started weeing stood up straight away. They practiced in the garden, in an old washing up bowl one summer and then went to the toilet stood on a little step.

Yep, you need a little step.

Dh taught ds at about 2 ish. He had an IKEA stool . He didn't like the potty.

Never.
Its better they just sit tbh. More hygienic and less chance of children getting constipated as they sit to wee, and might poop at same time.

Brewskipa · 09/04/2023 16:12

it is much more effective bladder emptying if they sit.

Thanks everyone. Yes I would prefer him to sit at home but obviously don't want him singled out at school. We will have another go with the step.
