Just started potty training with DD (2yr10m) - day 4 today. She's done really well and is only having a couple of accidents per day which is manageable! But I don't really understand how to...leave the house?! She is at nursery 3 days/week which is obviously fine but today she was home with me and her baby brother, so we did what we always do and popped out to a garden centre + cafe. She is not willing to pee on a proper toilet (even with a toddler seat) or the travel potty I bought so I ended up putting her normal potty in the bottom of the pram, which she used in the accessible toilet,

Is this what we should be doing? Do other mums lug a potty around?? I am reluctant to put her in nappy pants for outings because she is doing really well with just knickers but is this making life harder for us both?

I am not enjoying this stage of parenting Confused

We had a little frog seat from Amazon which he found hilarious, also it helped that I could say ‘let’s take froggy to the toilet’, you can get a few different styles. Although it does sound like you’ve already tried the travel seat option!

This worked wonders for us!

Ha ha yes with my eldest I just had a spare potty that used to come out with us, it was just a cheap pound shop one so slightly smaller than the one we had at home, I just used to shove it in a bag with changes of knickers and leggings etc. Second child I potty trained at the start of the first lockdown so she was well used to using the toilet by the time we were released again!

Sounds right to me. Its still early days. I went through a stage of carrying a potty about for my son. After a few weeks he decided he preferred to use the toilet at home so I then graduated to carrying a toddler toilet seat around. At least it was a bit smaller. I think one day I had forgotten it so he just had to use the big toilet and he managed if I helped him so now we just do that when out and about but he uses the toddler seat at home. I hate potty training!

We took a day off work either side of Easter weekend. Stayed at home for the first two days and kept him naked from the waist down, signalling the potty every time he went to wee. He caught on very quickly and would tell us when he needed to go. After two days we went on short walks with a travel potty (Potette) ... just to the park round the corner. When he managed that we did a slighty longer trip out. We struggled with poos as he had a huge fear of doing one and made himself really constipated through withholding. Anyway... Day 6 he went back to nursery and they just left him to it with a potty and he went for a poo just fine. I think we were perhaps putting a bit too much pressure on with trying to persuade him to sit on a potty to do a poo. If I could do it again I'd take a bit of a step back.

I love the look of these but I'm reluctant to buy one having just spent £25 on the last one 🙈

I'll keep it as a backup option though, thanks!!

That's a cute idea - I guess you just don't know what style they will be happy with until you try!

Reassuring to know that carrying a non-travel potty is within the boundaries of "normal"!!

Oh thank you, I guess I was just hoping that it's normal for them to need certain "props" for a while but she'll get there with using a big toilet before too long.

Yes, poos are a different ballgame to be honest as DD has been constipated most of her life (eg pooing every 3-5 days) until we sorted a new laxative very recently. So I'm also reluctant to push that side of things, I'd rather she uses a nappy and we don't cause a new problem of withholding!

How did you overcome this please? This is where I'm at with my toddler. Has done a couple, but now witholding and is in so much discomfort! We're up and down to sit on the potty (at toddler's request) every 20m or so!
