Toddler pooing in the bath - is it time?

Three times this week DD has pooed in the bath. She's 20 months and not amazing speech wise so we didn't want to start potty training till she could understand and communicate her needs a bit more. I read that the water being warm relaxes them so they feel more comfy pooing in the bath if they don't like the feeling of doing it in their nappy. This would make sense as she has just had a really vicious tummy bug a week or two ago and had a really sore bum. I'm thinking to maybe put her potty in the bathroom with us for her to get used to and sit her on it before her bath and then midway through? And then, what, every 30 mins through the day? God I don't even know 😂

Personally, I wouldn't start yet. It will be so much easier when it's warmer and you can be in garden for most of the time.

There's nothing wrong with putting her on the potty with a book to look at whilst the bath is running and then making an absolutely huge fuss if she does anything in it.

I did that with DS before starting properly and when we did start, he got it straightaway.

Plus if you leave it to the Spring, her language should have improved Wink

Absolutely not, I’d not read this as a sign she’s ready at all. If anything the opposite, and most likely totally related to it being sore and being more relaxed in the bath. Concentrate on ensuring her bum heals well and she eating well so her stools aren’t uncomfortable to pass.

potty training is a nightmare for all involved if they aren’t ready
