First day and it’s going well. But what do people after the first few days? So let’s say it goes well but she’s not 100% yet- what do I do when I take her out and we can’t get to a toilet quick enough? In a supermarket for example.
we also have an event next weekend- I’ll take travel potty but surely I can’t just whip out anywhere!

what are your best recommendations for the early days? And how long did you need the travel potty before they could reliably wait until they reached a toilet?

is it also a bad idea to use the reusable nappies or maybe use inserts in training pants for car journeys?

sorry so many questions!

I’d stay home completely for the first 3 days or so. Then I’d wait for wee, mad dash out the house, and stay out for max an hour- usually to the playground to burn off some energy. Skip the supermarket and get a delivery this week!

You mention what if you can’t make it in time… in my experience they take a while to self initiate. How long depends really on age, you’ll be waiting longer for that to come with an under 2 versus and over 3, so in the early days it’s mostly you telling them to go.

So events, outings etc., I’d take them to the loo every hour, if they don’t do anything try again in 15 minutes, if they do go then wait another hour. Might need to adjust your timings based on your kid but an hour worked for mine. If it wouldn’t be possible to take them that frequently for some reason like taking the tube or bad traffic then I’d put them in a pull up but still aim to take them as soon as possible. I know people say it can confuse them but used very infrequently then I haven’t found it be a problem.

I’ve also never used a travel potty, I have a folding seat for the big toilet instead. It’s less to carry. If you do use the travel potty then I think most people are fairly understanding of a training toddler but if you can use it in the loo then do!
