5 year old gets upset if we DON'T use nappies at night?

My 5 year old b/g twins could not have been more different as far as potty training goes. Particularly at nighttime.

Daughter more or less trained herself in a single week back at 2 yrs old, day and night. Zero issues since then.

My son though, was far more of a struggle--and still to the present day regularly has accidents at night. That by itself isn't a major concern, we were told it's not considered something worth referring for until at least 7 years old. So we're trying to be patient and minimize it until he grows out of it.

What my concern is, is he still to this day asks for us to buy the standard tabbed nighttime nappies. Just the mere mention of trying something like the nappy-pants, or pull-ups or something like that ends in tears. The boy does NOT want to give up his nappies.

Is this OK...? I feel increasingly strange buying oversized baby nappies for my 'baby' that is certainly not himself 'baby' sized anymore.

I don't see what difference it makes, nappies or nappy pants. They do the same job. If you want to minimise the stress of it for him and you, just let him have nappies surely. Doesn't seem worth the hassle.

I found for my daughter up to 7, where she still uses them, the pants were loose and could be more uncomfortable, so we also used the tabbed pants. With tabbed we could make them more snug for her and was therefore more comfortable. As she's nowhere near recognising during the night yet, I'm not too concerned about being able to pull them down right before going to sleep, do you want him to do this?

We found we could therefore have a normal bedtime routine and but the nappy on after bathtime and this worked for most comfort. But we right when we tucked her up we didn't feel there would be point going for a final wee.

Hi just thought I would offer my thoughts. To be honest I don’t see what the issue is. Nappies or nappy pants I don’t really see the difference. The manufactures clearly want you to transition into the bedwetting pull-ups that cost an absolute fortune in comparison.

At the end of the day it sounds like your little one still needs help keeping dry at night and if they are most comfortable in taped nappies then that’s what I would carry on using. I actually found them more reliable than pull-ups, they seem to keep snugger and leak less. Most parents have the other issue that marketing and stigma suggest they must transition to nappy pants at some stage and have issues as a consequence.

Let him keep what he feels comfortable in and before you know it he will be dry.

good luck
