DD did potty training at 2y4m. After showing the signs. (Telling us she had done wees/poos, climbing on to loo, sittingon otty, pretending her toys needed to theooo etc)
She was fine, taking herself to the loo, only accident was when she inadvertently napped or was very ill with diarrhoea.

But this last few weeks or so seems to have gone awry.

She's okay... Probably 30% of the time, she'll say she need a wee or go to the toilet on her own. 50%of the time she'll wait until the first drops are coming or the poonis coming out, a D maybe 20% of the time just wees/poos her pants and maybe comes and tells me.

She is going through a big "brain" growth it seems, and a lot of the accidents might be out down to FOMO. As she's often absorbed in her business when these accidents happen.

Nothing has changed in her life, no upheaval etc

Except maybe the illness where she didn't even know she was wetting/soiling (she had to have nappies) which may have been the trigger??

When the accidents do happen, we take her to the loo to see if anything else comes out. She has to help clean up/put her underwear in the wah bin etc. She's never told off for the accidents. We say things like "wee goes in the loo" or "next time it needs to go ok the toilet" Although I'm sure my exasperation isn't as hidden as I'd like Sad so maybe im not helping. As she does say things like "I'm sorry Mamma, I just made a mistake". To which I always reply "it's.ok, we all make mistakes..next time we'll try for the toilet "

Should I put her back in nappies and try again in a couple of months? Or do you think it's just a "phase"? Especially the FOMO thing?

Maybe remind her about going to the toilet when she's very distracted? Sounds like she's doing well overall though. Pull ups for nap time?

Not an expert but have been told it can take a few weeks after illness to get back on track. Plus it's normal to have some periods of regression before age 3.
I would keep the pressure off so no excessive reminders or exasperation. Definitely don't force her to sit on the toilet after an accident. But would try to bring some fun into it by introducing some rewards as well as praise. Make them easy to get, sticker, small sweet etc. I wouldn't go back to nappies unless you really need a break from it yourself or she is really stressed about it all.

We don't force her to sit on the toilet. We just phrase it as "let's see if any more is going to come out" and she happily comes along.
Do you think we should stop that? Maybe it isn't helping??

I'll up the praise for doing it "right".
