3 year old is potty trained, hasn't had a single accident so far (fingers crossed) but we seem to be having a little issue.

I help her onto the toilet and make sure her clothes are all out of the way but sometimes she still manages to wee over and out the toilet? Then she gets upset saying she's had an accident. I reassure her and say it's ok but she still gets worked up.

My thoughts so far have been that she's quite small so it's hard to get her on right, but she's got a toddler seat so I'm not sure what else to try. Or maybe she's holding it too long and it's coming out too forcefully, but I've been making sure she goes regularly and it still occasionally happens.

Obviously as women sometimes it can go in different directions but I can't ever remember going over and out myself?!
Anyone have any ideas?

Yes, but I found it mostly happened when she was on a toddler seat, so we ditched that and she just used the toilet. It didn't last long so I have no real advice, but seemed to always happen when we went out. You could use a potty instead for now?

Ah maybe it's the seat! Thank you, it's never happened on the potty but I didn't put two and two together.

We had the same issue when using the toddler seat, we ditched that and she's fine now.

Ditch the toddler seat and sit her further back on the main seat - so she's sort of "astride" rather than perched if that makes sense.

Next silly question then, how do they not fall in the toilet without the seat? Do they hold themselves up or do you hold them?

I held mine for a while but she holds the sides now. Apart from in grim public toilets, then I hold her in place still.

It's an anatomy thing.
Try an adult seat so she can sink down a bit more.
But also good posture. Legs apart, bum out, tummy out. (Or any other way of explaining hips back.)
Clothing down to her ankles every time.

Or ignore me because we're still having problems and it's been 2 years.

Brilliant, thank you everyone. I'll give it ago in the morning.

I’ve never used a toddler seat- she just sort of balances. We had problems in the potty with it shooting out, but getting her to lean forward seemed to help and it’s fine now.

My DD only managed to be toilet trained completely a week before she started early years in September she was3 in the July BUT she would hold her fanny and wiggle on the carpet every time she needed a wee instead of saying I need a wee to the teacher! She looked like a dog with worms

You can also try a different style if seat, some of them are too narrow and squish their legs together causing a kind of suction/fountain effect.

pushing tummy button forward (thus tilting pelvis forward) helps both direction & fully emptying

I never used a toddler seat with mine - just did as PP say.

In horrible public loos, I used to get the girls to face away from me and put their feet on the back of the seat. I'd then hold them under their arms so they could wee in the loo without having to touch anything.

My DD (just turned 4) did this the other day, she said look Mummy I can make a waterfall. Squeezed her thighs together and when she started weeing it all came up and over her legs indeed like a waterfall. I told her that wasn’t something she should be doing because there was now wee wee all over the floor and she could slip on it and that she now had to have another shower which she wasn’t happy about. So she won’t be doing it again in a hurry I don’t think.
Other than that, she’s been fine and that still with a toddler seat, just make sure her legs aren’t together.

We've got a footstool like this that we put in front of the adult toilet and my 18m old girl leans forward and holds on to it to steady herself on the toilet, she can also rest her feet on it which helps
