My daughter was 2 in may and for a while she's been showing all the signs for potty training, 3 months ago she did a pee on the potty out of the blue.... Nothing since. Last week she took herself off with her potty and did a number 2 in it, I gave her plenty of praise. She takes her nappy off alot especially if she's done a wee or a number 2.... As if she doesn't like the feeling which I know is a sign. She does sit on the potty but nothing happens instead she just wees on the floor but doesn't acknowledge what she's done. She's also sometimes started taking her nappy off at bedtime but then obviously wetting the bed. She's showing all signs to be ready but don't think she's quite joined the dots up.... Any advice would be muchly appreciated. Do I just go for it or wait a little longer? If we're in the house I've stated leaving her nappy free too but like I said she's just weeing on the floor 😫😫

Sounds ever so confusing as she is taking her nappy off and has done a number 2 on the toilet 🤔 I think like you mentioned she isn't joining the dots up. I would maybe just stick with nappies for now, when it comes to night time maybe put the nappy on backwards or even a popper vest over it, our daughter used to do this so I know how you feel 🤦‍♀️ good luck x

I think if she's showing signs of potty training readiness you should start but sounds like you may need a bit more structure to the training you are doing, I would really recommend reading the gentle potty training book by Sarah Ockwell-Smith. But the gist of it is day 1 when you start potty training keep them bare bottomed, tell them in the morning they need to listen to their body and tell you when they need the toilet and they can do it on the potty. Keep them bare bottomed for no longer than 2 days (as otherwise they may struggle recognise the sensation of needing a wee with clothes on), so try and do this when you are not planning to go out for a couple of days, do not put nappies (not even pull ups) back on at all during the day, not even for naps (we would put a towel under during naps), nappies are ok to put on at night only. Day 3 introduce clothes again, but clothes that are easy to pull down (e.g pants and a dress or loose leggings etc). Take lots of spare clothes with you when you go out, expect lots of accidents for the first week or so but then should lessen as they get used to it. If they do have an accident say something along the lines of oh I can see you didn't make it to the potty this time, that's ok you are still learning- next time try and tell me sooner. Then it usually takes 6m- 1yr from being fully day trained to also become night trained.
Hope this helps 😊
