Hello all!
My son has been toilet training this week (last sat and sun were half days due to planned commitments). Monday 6 accidents, Tues 3 accidents, wed no accidents, Thurs/Fri/today 1 accident. All wee accidents, he seems to have mastered a poo in the toilet.
How many accidents a day are to be expected and for how long please?
I'm really pleased with his progress so far.
He's 4 and a half with special needs (hence the late age to toilet train, have tried twice previously).

Thanks all!

There is no answer. It depends if they were ready when you started.

We waited with eldest Dd til she was 2y8m as it was summer. She had no accidents. Maybe one when we were out a little too long. Other Dd we tried at 2y3m (summer), she had many accidents, we stopped, retried later and no accidents.

Sounds like he (you both!) is doing really well!

I think my son had one poo which was traumatic enough that it didn't happen again and just a few wees. All done day and night after two weeks. After that there's still a chance if they are preoccupied and can't get to a toilet quick enough when they suddenly realise they need to go. My daughter had a couple accidents in reception for example.

Today and yesterday he had one wee accident again, I have realised that its around the same time each day he has an accident so I need to be extra vigilant!

I'm thinking not to attempt over night just yet as his nappy each morning is always full?

@PinkDaydreams my older son has only just started being dry overnight at 5 but he has been toilet trained during the day since before he was 3. If you're just starting wouldn't worry too much about overnight for now.

I'm currently potty training my 2 year old, from about 2 weeks onwards we could be fairly confident he wouldn't have accidents as long as we reminded him to go frequently.

Only in the past week or so (about 5 weeks since we started) have we been confident enough to let him tell us when he needs to go and not needing to remind him to go. He has been much slower getting the hang of it compared to my first.

Thank you @lashej that's reassuring to hear. I think he's doing really well with toilet training, it's the annoying parents at the nursery gates and playground "well my DD/DS had no accidents at all after day 3/2/0" that get me doubting and pressurising myself.

I tried potty training my DTs at around 2, then 3. The house was literally sailing in wee they had so many accidents, so we gave up and waited.

They eventually potty trained just before they were 4 (neither have special needs), when DS announced he’s no longer wearing nappies, and DD followed suit shortly afterwards. They had an accident maybe once a day at that point for a couple of days then they got the hang of it.

I'd say your DS is doing great! Ignore the other parents, I sort of think they’ll do it when they’re ready to.
