Is 18 months too early?

My 18 month old has stopped wetting his nappy through the night. He is aware of when he is weeing/pooing but we don’t have a potty or anything so I’m not sure on his willingness to go outside of the nappy. Looked through older treads and can’t see any advice on starting an 18 month old. Is it possible to start too early and make it difficult later on if he’s not ready? If not how’s best to start?

I think 18 months is exactly when they have control of their bladder. I think it's a good time to slowly start.

Depends how much spare time
You have, I certainly wasn't waking around dts doing 'the method', if you can be arsed with it crack on

Do you mean the three day method or something else?
I do have the time to do whatever to be honest

If you feel he is ready absolutely give it a go, my eldest was dry in the day by 20 months, took much longer for my youngest we could tell he wasn't ready to even try until after he turned two

neither of mine would potty train til 3.5 and then we cracked it in two days. So try it but if it’s a disaster, hold off

Nothing to lose in trying. I was potty trained by that age stealth boast

My mum said that before the disposable nappies kids used to be potty trained much earlier.18 months is perfect

I was having this conversation with my mum today, she said the norm used to be 18 months but because there was a girl at my childminders who was 6 months older than me I copied her and started at around 12 months.

It sounds like your child is ready

No harm in trying. It should only take days if they're ready though, not weeks. As per pp, if it's a disaster, just stop and try again later in the year.
