Has anyone had a kid who can use the potty but just doesn’t want to? DD turned three in January and we decided to take the plunge on Saturday. She was a bit pissed off about wearing knickers but after a couple of accidents she did wees and poos on the potty all weekend without prompting.

Took her to nursery today and she was very very upset about wearing knickers and didn’t want to go. They took her off me and said she’d be fine but I feel horrible.
I’ve held off until now in the hope she’d want to do it. She’s not a kid who wants to copy other kids and she doesn’t do bribes or presents (“I had enough presents at Christmas Mummy”).

Should I just keep going with it?

Don’t go back, it’ll be worse as she gets older. It all takes time. If she wets herself say nothing, change her underwear and clothes and move on with the day. Speak to the nursery to ensure they don’t make a fuss when it happens either m. My dd wound hold herself and wiggle in the carpet in Early Years rather than say I need a wee! Yours will get there

Thank you! She had her third day in knickers at nursery today and she was fine at drop off so she’s got over her fear of it. She’s not had a single accident there so she’s done brilliantly which I think has helped her confidence.

I now have to try and get her to use her travel potty (or her actual potty at someone else’s house). When I suggest going somewhere she immediately says no knickers and on the few outings we’ve done she’s held everything in til we get home and refuses to sit on her potty in a cafe loo or wherever. She’s very scared but we’ll get there in time.

My little boy was the same, the turning point for me was when he started to use the toilet. I did that two weeks into him being dry... he has his own special seat I carry around with him, and I just explained how everybody has toilets, so if he needs it we can just pop his seat on for him.

We had to take his potty to nursery because he wouldn't use any other potty (it was a bit of a nightmare) nursery suggested taking the potty out of the mix, and it worked.

Good luck :) sounds like it's gone amazing so far, well done to your little girl
