My 26m old keeps taking nappy off by the time I've come into his room in the morning

Is this a sign of being ready to potty train or is it a sign he just doesn't like his nappy?
Two nights ago he refused his pyjamas, ripped off the onesie I had him in and then fell asleep in just his nappy. When I went to get him in the morning he had ripped the nappy off (bed dry but I think he had only just ripped it off)
Then last night I did manage to get him into a vest as well but again this morning, handed me his nappy! I was surprised he got it off from under his vest actually.

He's being incredibly fussy about wearing clothes, especially trousers at the moment as well.

Oh also meant to say we do have a potty which he has sat on whilst wearing his nappy but doesn't last long and then today we have let him be naked and told him to sit on potty if he needs a wee but he's kinda shaken his head "no" and doesn't seem to like the idea...
Maybe need a new potty

My girls did the same and I let them!

They were both dry at night from then on (well and the day too)

So did you still put the nappy on at night though? Or leave nappy off?

You could try some cloth nappies if he doesn't like the texture and feel of disposables if that's what he currently wears.
If you want to remove the nappy completely get a mattress protector and some of the mats that go on the beds a bit like puppy training mats. I'd keep spare bedding close by and a spare duvet made up so you can sort it out quickly at night.

Or you can put a onesie on backwards but might have to cut the neckline to make it comfortable.

I do have cloth nappies a si did that for 6months from birth although I hated doing it.
I did actually try that today but he said no and ran away.

I'm pretty sure he is testing me. Tonight I just took a matter of fact "you do it or mummy will" and ok he did struggle a bit but the meltdown was nowhere near as bad. Didn't even try trousers and I thought getting a nappy and vest on was good progress to that point and then gave lots of praise.
Tomorrow is nursery day so we need to be up and out sharp so will see how that goes.

I’d give him a go at potty training, if it doesn’t work you haven’t lost anything (perhaps a little it of sanity)

@Didiusfalco
Mmmm honestly I'm just not sure he is ready. He was avoiding the potty today but happy to pee on the floor. "Oh no" he would say.
I said if you need a wee wee please sit on the potty. "Noooo"...
So I'm just not sure?
