Help with potty training

Just looking for some advice about potty training my daughter, she will be 3 in January. We bought a couple of potty's a few months ago, she knows what the potty is for and plays with them by putting her toys on them for a wee. She has even done a wee on the potty and was really pleased with herself.

Last weekend we attempted to start potty training, she wouldn't wear her pants (which I know is normal) and then had a couple of accidents which we didn't make a fuss of but when we suggested she try to go on the potty she was getting really upset and almost distressed about it so we popped her nappy back on and left her for the week.

Today we've attempted to start again and this morning asked her to have some nappy free time but again she's getting really upset about the idea.

My question is, do they have to want to potty train? Is her reaction normal or a sign she is not emotionally ready to potty train?

Any advice welcome!!! Thank you.

Has she got any books about Potty Training? If not your local library should have some.

Would she be happier on the toilet with a toilet seat?

My daughter seemed ready to potty train but hated the actual potty. We got some seats for loo and she started using those. We also had several potty training books and a very blatant system of bribery using smarties/buttons - 1 for a wee, 2 for a poo.

They also need to be physically ready and emotionally in a good place (not sudden upheavals, not ill, sleeping well etc)

Good luck.

If she's getting upset then don't force the issue.
Leave her be for a while.

If you wait until the child is ready it shouldn't take long.

I highly recommend Oh Crap! by Jamie Glowalcki, only when we followed the advice from this book did our DS become trained properly with no accidents. Good luck!

I'm currently potty training dd, the only potty she will sit on is this one... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003TW5858/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_DBXY58A6JYRHAFDB4H8H?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I also have a basket of (very cheap) little treats, like crafty stuff, chocolate buttons, bouncy balls etc and she gets to pick a treat whenever she uses the potty. Its seems to be going well so far
