2.5 toddler weeing in bed on purpose to keep nappy dry

My little boy is 2.5 and has been potty trained for 3 months which has been fairly successful. We still have the odd accident but can easily go a whole week or two with nothing then have two accidents in one afternoon.

In the last 3 weeks he has been waking up early (around 5) shouting he needs a wee or that he has just done one in his pull ups and needs clean pants. Most recently we have had mornings where the bed was very wet, I initially thought there had been a nappy leak. We have tried varying types of pull ups/nappy sizes but I’ve realised in the last few days that he is actually pulling the nappy to one side and weeing in the bed. When I’ve asked him he has said he doesn’t want wet pants.

What do I do now? Night potty train? I thought he would be too small. It’s happening every night now! I’ve tried different sizes of nappies done tightly and it hasn’t helped. I don’t think is a ploy to get us in to his room as he doesn’t always call for us, just changes position in bed.

Really unsure what to do next!

Had you thought of leaving a potty in his room?

One of mine was dry at night as soon as they were dry in the day. Only one of mine though, others took months/years.

There is a potty in there but he can’t get the pull ups on and off properly himself so we haven’t encouraged him to get out tk use it but I think I will start doing that! Thanks for your reply

In that case I’d leave the pull ups off. He appears to know that he needs to go and he’s currently seeing on the mattress anyway so the pull ups are a waste.

Same here. Eldest was dry at night as soon as he'd cracked daytime too, which surprised us. He was about this age too. Never had a nighttime accident since! If only my youngest had been so straightforward Grin

Thanks all. Think I will make the potty more handy, get rid of the pull ups and just go for it. I did think ‘surely he is too young!?’ But perhaps not!

Mine was also dry at night, as soon as he was dry in the day. Though it involved me getting up with him in the middle of the night and putting him on the potty for a while. He was a bit older though... 2 years and 8 months

Both of mine were dry at night when they cracked potty training in the daytime.

If you're up in the middle of the night, I'd take that opportunity to take your DS to the loo for a wee too.
