Potty training issues

Hi all!

My youngest is 2 and 4 months. I’m struggling a little with potty training so far. We gave number ones down to a T, but when it comes to number 2s my son is getting really distressed. I leave him with his nappy off while we are in the house so he can go as he pleases as pants confuse him. If he feels he needs a number 2 he cries and acts really frightened. I’ve tried putting his favourites on TV, blowing bubbles while he sits down, singing etc but he won’t have it.

I don’t want to pressure him and cause any problems, what is best course here do you think? It’s worth noting he doesn’t talk yet. (Other than mum, dad, dog, nan, bus) No issues as far as I’m aware, his brothers development was just the same and he’s up to speed for his age now.

Any advice much appreciated thank you!! X

The general opinion is if your potty training then all wake time nappies should go. Sounds like he is just scared of pooing on the potty. For both my kids once they had down it a couple of times they realised it was fine.

Let him see you and your partner having a poo and talk about. Download poo goes to Pooland app. Use a magic step to put his feet on a training step when he is sitting on the potty to poo so he is a more natural position to poo.

If he is not talking in sentences at 2 then he needs a referral for a hearing test and to SaLT.

I’ll look in to those! Thank you.

I’ve already spoken to health visitor on his speech and he’s had a hearing test, he’s fine thanks.

Line the potty with a nappy and get him to sit on it, then progress to putting a pad of loo roll in the potty. It’s the ‘dropping’ sensation they don’t like.

Great idea I’ll try this, thank you!!
