FTM

Wanted to know, what age did your children start learning?

Also, do you have to use a potty? Can you not just use the toilet right away?

Both mine as soon as they turned 3. Took 2 days for each. I tried dc1 at 2.5 but they weren’t getting it more than half the time after 2 days so decided not to persevere. I saw friends doing it for weeks/months at 2 and decided it wasn’t for me.

I tried with my son at 2 and again just before 3. Second attempt he cracked it!

We had a potty downstairs (no downstairs loo) for the first couple of weeks as he wasn’t quick enough to get upstairs, but has been pretty much just using the toilet since then which is so much easier. I keep a potty in the car for emergencies and that’s it

2.5 for wees. Current 3 years 4 months and we are still working on poos. Progress is very very slow. She hates the feeling of it coming out.

My son was 4 in April and has only now decided to toilet train himself. We tired before and it was miserable as he just didn't get it. Potties and fake toilets didn't work and he was scared of the toilet. He has done it all himself now and we have gone straight to toilet with very few accidents. Still can't poo without needing a nappy but one step at a time.

I felt quite anxious that kids younger than him were trained but, honestly, it has been pretty stress free. I wouldn't set an age expectation.

Mine potty trained at just turned 2 and tbh favoured using the toilet fairly soon after that. She's quite tall though! Will still use potty sometimes now age 3 but mostly prefers the proper loo

Dd around 2.4 years (used a potty)
Ds was 2.10 years (mainly used the toilet - with extra seat)
Both took about a week - 10 days.
Neither were dry at night until they were 5 or 6.

Potty trained at 2.5 and was using toilet a month or so later

2.5. stopped and started several times. Trained at 2 years and 9 months and been dry at night too since that time. Accidents since Incan count on my hand. Though hadna.bitnof a regression where he would dribble just before askimg for a wee.

Opalfeet · 14/06/2021 23:50

Oh we used potty at first because toilet is upstairs. He's 3 years and 5 months. He's just started to walk upstairs and go to the toilet in his own. He's been using the toilet and step a good while now. Since just after three months

Years 🤦‍♀️

We never bothered with a potty. I waited until DS was nearly 3, purely because I had2 weeks off planned for then. DS was “trained” within a day, had a couple of accidents in the morning, fine in the afternoon. He had been consistently dry through the night for a few months before then and it hindsight I should have tried it earlier.
We used one of these inserts that also has a little step/foot stool attached to it.
