My daughter hasn't pooed in around 10 days and is on movicol daily 😞
I'm really worried and don't know what to do

Have you spoken to the GP?
Maybe a larger dose of movicol is required

chilliplant634 · 07/04/2021 15:55

This is an acute and very urgent problem. Cease all potty training. It sounds like she is on the way to fecal impaction. You need to administer a glycerin suppository in order to soften up the hard plug of poo which blocking everything. If she is this badly constipated then you may need to give one for a few days in a row until the impaction has cleared. Then maintain with movicol. Is she witholding stool?

Aquamarine1029 · 07/04/2021 15:56

Your child needs to be seen by a doctor immediately.

chilliplant634 · 07/04/2021 15:56

You can buy them over the counter from any pharmacy. Also how much movicol are you giving her? How old is she?

chilliplant634 · 07/04/2021 15:57

If the suppository doesn't work then take her to a Dr immediately.

DinosaurDiana · 07/04/2021 15:57

Put a nappy on her and make sure she is drinking adequately, then ring the GP.

dementedpixie · 07/04/2021 15:58

I would contact the GP before doing anything else

NerrSnerr · 07/04/2021 16:01

When did she last see a GP. I'd give your surgery a call and ask for a call back from a Gp (and if they don't call back today I'd call out of hours when they open). I would try and speak to a doctor before taking well meaning medical advice from people.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 07/04/2021 16:01

When you say you don't know what to do do you mean you're already following the doctors advice and it sent working or for some reason you aren't able to contact a doctor

It sounds serious to me and I wouldn't be relying on the internet.

Oneearringlost · 07/04/2021 16:05

My DD aged 2 and being potty trained, developed "Proctalgia Fugex", where they resist pooing as they feel insecure. It can lead to pain and distress, but isn't uncommon in potty training.
Is your DS eating and drinking?
Keep a close eye on the next 24 hours, bowels as well as behaviour
I would stop potty training, increase Movicol

Oneearringlost · 07/04/2021 16:07

Sounds like she's withholding. Suppository and nappies, and contact GP if no result in 24 hours

DobbyTheHouseElk · 07/04/2021 16:11

How long has she been on movicol?

Can you increase the dose? You do need to drink plenty when taking movicol.

Maddie2802 · 07/04/2021 16:17

She is on a sachet a day as per doctor recommendations, when her poos look normal they suggested stopping the movicol.
I rang the doctor and they said they were at capacity at an automated number, so the options are to ring tomorrow or ring 111, she is two and a half. I will ring 111.
It is really hard to get her to drink lots so I give her fruit and ice lollies too along with water. She has prune pouches also to try and help.

She isn't complaining or upset which she has been in the past when she was constipated. I'll ring 111 now for further advice. Thanks

1 sachet may not be enough to clear the constipation but you should get medical advice

AdelaideK · 07/04/2021 16:22

I'd be upping the movicol immediately

SwanShaped · 07/04/2021 16:24

We were told to go up to 4 sachets a day for a 2 year old. Then come back down again when poos were normal. So hopefully you’ll be able to increase. We also went back to nappies for poos for a few months to get over the fear.

DinosaurDiana · 07/04/2021 16:26

They don’t like the feeling of the poo ‘falling’ out of their bottom, so pad the potty with plenty of loo roll to prevent that feeling, then slowly reduce the amount of loo roll as she gets used to it.

Maddie2802 · 07/04/2021 16:42

I've rang 111 and they are going to call me back, she's been in movicol for about two months now and was on a sachet a day and was going up to 3 times a day went poos, we then went down to half a sachet. I thought she was blocked up but the doctor didn't seem to think so and just said try movicol till it's better with up to one sachet a day. I don't know what to do, I feel like an awful mum

Googling suggests up to 4 sachets can be given to that age group.
Hope she gets some relief soon

cushioncovers · 07/04/2021 17:06

My son was like this and I took him to an osteopath who gently manipulated his back and hips and he had a poo as soon as we'll got home. It worked every time. Eventually he became more regular and the problem disappeared.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 07/04/2021 17:12

I gave movicol daily when poos were normal as a preventative treatment.

It really works. I’d increase til you see a poo.

We don’t use movicol anymore, but Dc is still prone to constipation. Has been since birth. But at least now they are able to say when tummy hurts and we try to have a diet full of fibre.

I really understand how worrying this is, I was on constant poo watch.
