My DD turned is 26 months ... because of pressure from various angles I got decided to get the potty out and attempted training one day shorty after her 2nd birthday but after an hour and 2 accidents and my 6 months older son needing my attention a fair bit I decided I was being stupid and she wasn't ready and neither was I.

This Monday we was going upstairs for bath time and she said "mummy I go wee wee on potty" ... I haven't had the potty out since so I was a bit taken back but I didn't want to discourage her so I quickly got it out and she did her business!! Lots of surprised cheers and claps and it got me thinking.

So Tuesday I decided I would now go for it! Her communications great and she was obviously wasn't daunted by it. Anyway first 3 days I went for bare bum approach which was good! She seemed to take to it well snd we had 2 accidents and the 2 times was when I left her in a separate room while I went to either fetch something from kitchen or what not for 1-2 minutes. Next day only 1 accident but for similar reasoning. Day 3 we had 2 accidents again and this time it was after her sitting on the potty for a while and then walking away and getting distracted with a game in her toy room but I was there and kept asking. These have all been wees but today we were all in the play room, her potty next to her and she had been on and off it after a few successful wees in the morning. She stood there and said "oh dear mummy poo poo" and that's exactly what fell onto the floor.

Is this "normal" I'm really not sure if she's doing really well or normal or not so good!!!

Also I'm putting pull ups on for nap and nighttime ... am I right in saying I'll do this for a while yet!! Xx

When DD potty trained, it was at her own pace, she was about the same age actually. She can be very stubborn (!), she refused for ages. Then she started using the potty on a couple of occasions. So when I had time off we went for it. It was a challenging week, it was hit and miss, probably 50/50 but within a week she had cracked it. Lots of children aren’t dry at night even once they’re dry in the day. It was a full year before DD was dry at night after training in the day so she carried on having pull ups at night.

It sounds like a similar experience to ours, I think if you’ve come this far, keep going!

With my eldest we let her lead, we had a potty etc explained what it all was for but no pressure. At around 2 and half she just said i want big girl pants - dry during the day and a few months before completely dry at night.
My younger daughter we planned the same but children do not follow the same path!! She refused to entertain even sitting on the potty nappy free meant pee on the floor. So we stopped and just before her third birthday we tried again with success but she was nearly 5 before we could brave no nighttime nappy/pads.

Every child is different and will find what works for them. Ignore pressures do what works for your daughter and your family- my mum saying she shouldn’t be in nappy’s at 2 and MIL saying husband was dry before as well (mind you if I listened and believed her my husband could read at 6 months 😂)

Thank you!!!

We're day 6 and today was the first time we've been outside the house (welcomed fresh air) ... only in our back garden but it was hve eat and today was day 1 of no accidents and she seems to be doing it now with out too much need of attention either .. I'm keeping up with the celebration but toned it down slightly and I think she has really accepted that no nappies while awake is key.

I'm thinking of just waiting again until end of the year and seeing where she's at for nighttime and tying it in with taking her cot down to a big girl bed and putting a mini toilet potty in her room?! Xx
