Going back to nappies.

Have any of you resorted to going back to nappies after failed attempts at potty training?

I'm getting nowhere with my 3yo and it's something I'm now considering although I know a lot of mums frown on it.

I had to do it with my 3 year old it's not good but if they aren't ready what else can you do?

She eventually got it 4 months before her 4th birthday.

Do what you have to do, don't feel bad about it or worry about what others think.

Thanks, I'm glad I'm not alone.

It's far from ideal but it may take the stress out of the situation until the new year.

Why not use pull ups? You can still train but it takesaway the stress and pressure.

I 100% agree with going at their pace and I actually think you can do harm if you force it.

Yes, we have. I've heard that when they're really ready, it's not a long process and I couldn't do weeks and weeks!!

Pantheon · 22/11/2020 18:19

I don't think it's in our control as parents to be honest and agree with pp that forcing it can be harmful.

I had 3 attempts with my daughter, starting from when she was 2 and a half. Was an absolute disaster on the first 2 attempts and we went back to nappies as I was worried I was making things worse by persevering. Got there in the end on the 3rd attempt when she was 3 years and 2 months, and she took to it quickly with no accidents, so I think we did the right thing.

My dd will be 3 in feb.
We had an attempt in august that was disastrous and went back to nappies as she was borderline traumatised over the whole thing.
We're slowly reintroducing the potty again. She has a few nappy free hours a day at the moment and so far has had one wee in the potty. Usually as soon as she really needs a wee, she gets hysterical and cries that she needs her nappy on and won't entertain the idea of the potty.

She will work it out for herself... It does take time don't put pressure on yourself. Kids tend to think they make discoveries for themselves, you'll probably find one day she sat on potty and did a pee and poo without saying anything, she just has to click that it's better to do it in potty than walk around in a wet soggy nappy. Don't go backwards and buy nappies though, buy pull ups. Sometimes kids minds are stubborn and made up, but they also have a natural curiosity. Leave the potty out and say once in a while what the potty is for

We did in the summer. Dd turns 3 next week and we're starting again today. I wanted to wait but nursery really want her using the potty.

It's too cold to go totally naked so we can't use the Oh Crap method, this time I'm trying bribery.

Could blackcurrent drinks be the problem?

Mine took ages to train, accidents galore and both in Drynites at night.

Someone told me to cut out black current juice and the problem solved almost overnight.

Lazypuppy · 07/12/2020 00:33

@tiktaktiktak we've literally just done the oh crap method, we just did bare bottom with a tshirt on top, heating up a little bit and she was fine in the house.
