12m & potty?

I know 12 months is too early to properly potty train, just to get that out of the way.

Basically DD has a bacterial infection around her nappy area which is really inflamed and awful. She's being treated with antibiotics but the GP suggested we also have "nappy off time" as much as possible. Cue lockdown 2.0, stars aligned etc etc.

Anyway, she's nappy free a LOT in the day, which has lead to lots of accidents, obviously. That's fine, we just stay in the kitchen where the floor is tiled, but ive noticed she's started coming over to me and getting my attention before doing a wee or a poo, so now i get warning.

My query is basically, would it be really confusing for her if i introduced a potty for the next fortnight (just to help with the endless floor mopping) and then put her back in nappies when the infection clears up? A bit of me wants to encourage the "getting mama when you need a poo" thing and a lot of me thinks that's daft, because she's basically a baby. But if she's aware of when she needs to go, now she's naked waist down, will getting her to use the potty now and then putting her back in nappies be a huge step back!?

I know kids generally train later but my grandma swears all of hers started at one, and DD seems like she knows when she's going, which is a sign, right?

I've basically just been blindsided and am overthinking. And essay writing. Help!

Try her. My niece was fully trained (daytime) at 13 months.

potty in the kitchen then and encourage her to try it. treat when successful. my early walker had excellent motor development and potty trained at 13 months.

Go for it, OP. Look up elimination communication. Kids used to be trained much, much younger than they are today.

If she’s nappy free in the kitchen and there’s a potty there there’s no harm in it being there and sitting her in it occasionally. You never know what might happen!

Ok you guys have made me feel much better. I thought for a bit i might be being one of those mums who goes on the parenting board to tell everyone that their 3 month old baby says "milk" when she's hungry.

Had never heard of elimination communication, will look that up. Thank you!
