To wake or not to wake during the night

Hi all

My DS has been dry through the night since August with perhaps an accident once a fortnight. Trouble is....he doesn’t wake during or even after he has wet the bed, so I discover him cold and wet in the morning. I’ve read conflicting things regarding waking him to go to the toilet again during his sleep.

Bed time is usually around 7-7.30pm and his last drink is generally by 6pm. We have the routine of brush teeth, toilet then bed.

So should I start putting him on the toilet when we go to bed around 10pm to try and avoid the accidents or are they too infrequent to worry about?

No. Nighttime dryness is hormonal. If you don’t have the hormone you won’t be dry at night. Stick a nappy back on them to sleep in and leave them to sleep.

I don't think that's right. If he didn't have the hormone he would be wetting every night, not just once a fortnight. His issue is sleeping too deeply and not noticing the urge to go (or maybe waking but wanting to try to hold it to avoid having to get out of nice warm bed to go to the toilet, and then wetting later).

@AndSoToBed12 maybe get a bed wetting alarm - will help his body connect those last dots and fully wake up when it sends the message

My DS was the same. He can go for a week or so dry all night and then seems to have a few nights where he wakes up wet. He only notices this in the morning. He goes to bed at 7.30pm.

I've started to get him up when I go to bed at 10/10.30pm and this seems to have cracked it. He always has a wee and surprisingly barely wakes up. He barely registers me and goes straight back into bed.

So far, we've not had any accidents but only 2 weeks in. Hopefully it'll continue.

@TigerQuoll I had no idea suck a think existed, thanks for the suggestion I’ll certainly try this. He is a very deep sleeper, although has woken up before on the odd occasion to go to the toilet. He also loves his bed so I can well imagine he doesn’t want to get up in the middle of the night.

We wake every night before we go to bed at 12pm and he gets up at 9.30namd has a big wee. We did this for selfish reasons though as son was waking us in the middle of the night to go to potty.

@AndSoToBed12 our little boy is also a deep sleeper. I go in with the light off (he has a gro clock and leave the door open so there's enough light to see (just). I take on the potty, put him on and then pop him back in bed. He doesn't really wake and goes straight back to sleep. I was surprised.

My ds(3) has been dry overnight since March when he decided he would no longer wear a nappy to bed! We get him up every night at 10.30, we did stop getting him up for a while and he was still dry 90% of the time but the trouble was like your son if he did have an accident he wouldn't wake up and I'd find him cold and wet in the morning! It's not ideal to have to get him up but it's what is working for us!
