We are on day 3, my little girl is 2 years 3 months. Just wondering if anyone else has recently started and needs some moral support?

@BridgeFarmKefir Hi!

That’s so good you’re making progress, your nursery sounds great. My little girl had a bad tummy the other day too, she was really upset she couldn’t get to the loo in time. I must say it was a bit of an ordeal cleaning that one up! You’re totally right PT isn’t just a 3/4 day thing!

Turns out I was worrying over nothing, on the 3rd day she was back at nursery she didn’t have any accidents. So I think it’s like you say- just a new environment.

Nursery also seems to have prompted her to use the big toilet. So no more cleaning up the potty!

She won’t poop at nursery though.. yesterday she got home and said ‘No poo poo at nursery poo poo at home’, DH and I were in hysterics. Hope she doesn’t give herself a tummy ache holding it though!

Hi there hoping for a little advice/encouragement.
DS is 2.2years old and last weekend we had a stab at the oh crap method. It was 50/50 some wees in the potty some not. Managed to catch him starting a poo and finished on the potty and he was most surprised by it. Dh and I were both exhausted and was a bit nervous about sending him for 2 full days at nursery without nappies. So weve stuck a pin in it for this week. However the week after next we will all have 5 days off together and it seems a good time to try again.
Have I messed it up not sticking at it?
Hes also pretty attached to his nappies and asks for us to put one on him.
Hes also not great at dressing and undressing, trousers in particular because we use cloth nappies and they are pretty bulky to get his trousers off Independently.

Can we crack it in 5 days then send him to nursery for the following 2?

Thanks for making it this far.

@DaisyandRoses sounds like she's making great steps forward! And it's fab that nursery have encouraged her to go to the toilet. Hopefully as she gets used to it poos will come next.

DD and I had a weekend together alone which was actually quite good. Loads of success, her taking herself to the potty etc. I got a bit too relaxed though and laid off prompting her so we ended today with a couple of accidents. She was also knackered and in quite a mood so that didn't help!

@Blissfulignorance welcome to the thread! You definitely won't have messed things up by doing 2 days and then stopping. What I would say though is don't put too much pressure on yourselves to see amazing results in a couple of days. Loads of people will tell you 'my child was potty trained in a weekend' but I don't think that's how it works for most people. Our first day was all accidents. It was really disheartening. But then on the second we had some successes and I started to 'trust the process' a bit more

Re: nursery - I just did a weekend of Oh Crap and then sent her in. Obviously I talked to nursery about it before and they were super keen.(I think partly as we use cloth nappies too and they find them annoying 😂) But they've been brilliant. I wouldn't worry much about clothes - I encourage DD to push down her leggings but if we're in a hurry I do it for her. Then I really encourage her to pull them up so she gets used to it. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice! May I ask how you tackled nap time and nights? Should I put a nappy on at nap time? Do I really need to wake him in the night to wee?

@Blissfulignorance we do nappies at nap time and night. I make a bit of a thing of it - in the morning I say 'time to take off your nappy, pants on now, you're a big girl' etc. Some people do train day and night at the same time but my daughter is nowhere near being dry at night yet and I really enjoy my unbroken sleep currently!

What I haven't done yet is a long car journey. Sometimes she sleeps in the car and sometimes she doesn't so I'm not entirely sure how we'll do that. Mind you, most people I'd visit are in lockdown now so no pressing need for a long journey for a while...

Hello all, mind if I join? DS is 2 next month. I was adamant I wasn’t going to even think about potty training for several months, but over the last few days he’s started communicating when he’s about to do a poo. I got the potty out and he’s been having a play with it and he’s been playing naked quite a bit. We’re nowhere near ready in terms of wee though, this morning I managed to grab the potty and hold it in front of him as he wee’d and he didn’t have a clue he was weeing!

Blissfulignorance · 24/10/2020 15:26

Hi sounds like a good start. Are you following any methods? We have been using the 'oh crap' book. Day 4 properly today and we are dry all day including naps, this morning there was only a tiny tiny leak in his bedtime nappy. Can't recommend the book enough. Good luck

Hey!

I started training ds 22months yesterday. Only one successful wee on the potty but today has been much better. We still haven’t fathomed out the signs so I have pretty much worked out how long between drinking to needing a wee. Mainly I prompt him by sitting him on the potty when I think he needs to go.

Today has been much more successful with the prompting, wees & a poo on the potty today.

I had great success with DD as she turned two with the oh crap method. It was easy as she was much more talkative.

How are you dealing with potty training with younger ones who aren’t speaking just yet?

Willow4987 · 26/10/2020 21:27

I’m on day 2 of the oh crap method with my 26 month DS. It’s been a mixed bag. Some wees on the potty but all have mainly been me catching him starting to wee and then putting him on. Very few actual wees that have started on the potty.

There’s been some resistance and it’s been very hard not to become frustrated with him

I’m really really really hoping tomorrow is a better day Confused

Blissfulignorance · 27/10/2020 06:28

Hang in there! They will get it soon enough. Started my LO last wednesday and hes cracked it now. Tentatively say hes dry at night too!
If anything I have a problem getting him to wee?! He will hold it in alllll day.

As for the communication I dont really have any advice, I have a right chatter box here.

Good luck both

How long is everyone staying in block one for? We’re on day 3 of block one now and at the moment I can’t see a day when we’ll be out of itGrin
