Should we go back to pull ups?

We noticed my 3yo was dry every morning around March. During lockdown he was home with me and for 3 months we had very few nighttime accidents so all was well.

He has been back at nursery full time since July and slowly the night time accidents are increasing to almost every night now.

He doesn't wake when he goes. I'm 29 weeks pregnant so not sleeping great so have been checking and changing sheets as and when I wake if he's wet. We've tried limiting fluid before bed and also working with nursery to address his constipation which has also restarted since going back to nursery but the accidents aren't reducing.

If he hadn't of managed it no problem for 3 months I'd have said he was too young and not ready etc as he is only 3 but I can't work out why the sudden change.

I'm now wondering if we should just go back to pull ups for a few months and try again once the baby is here or we notice consistent dry nights again.

Any tips / advice?

He's maybe just extra tired from going back to nursery. If he's waking every night for sheets to get changed then that will contribute to tiredness too. I'd go back to pull ups and reassess in a few weeks

Def go back. He's tired from school, and tired fr the whole bed change.

Possibly wake him up at your bedtime and sit him on the loo, but leave the pull up on. If the pull up stays dry for two weeks, try again.

I think the constipation is your bigger problem as this can cause long term issues if not resolved.

I’d focus on this, including upping fluids to help. Restricting them in the interests of being dry at night is the last thing you should be doing right now.

Also, the constipation can be contributing to the wetting, with the bowel pressing on the bladder

Agree with PP. I'd pop him back in pull ups, not limit fluids, and try to address the constipation.
I appreciate it's easier said than done when pregnant though!

My son is 3 and I tried no pull ups for 3 days, it was a nightmare, nine changes of clothes in a day... back to pull ups and try again in a few months!

My DD is 3, she never wets the bed at night unless she needs a poo. On the occassional mornings she has wet the bed she always does a poo when she gets up, so second pp that sorting the constipation should hopefully sort the wetting. Orange juice and raisins do the job here.... Good luck.

Oh I missed constipation. Def back in pull ups and sort the constipation, that's a far more significant issue then toilet training. Take it from someone with a 5 yo with chronic constipation and not toilet trained

Thanks all. Appreciate all the comments.

I was definitely not planning to 'night toilet train' at 3, more following his lead as he was dry for multiple nights and subsequently managed with no issues for 3 months.

The constipation has been ongoing on and off since he was 6 months old and he was also on Laxido up until lockdown but being in control of what he's eating during the day during lockdown I was able to completely stop the laxido with no issues. Since going back to nursery he is struggling again so nursery are finally on board and not offering him certain foods anymore.

Will switch back to pull ups for now and hopefully the food changes at nursery will help sort the constipation once and for all.
