Is potty training the end of long naps in 26m old?

We've been potty training 26m old DD for about a week so super early days. We put a nappy on her for her naps, she usually has a nap after lunch. At home this will be 1.5-2.5 hrs usually and at nursery it's usually about 1-1.5hrs. The last two days she has woken after 1hr at home and only 40 mins at nursery crying, which isn't like her at all, and then immediately asking for the potty and then having a pee in it. We obviously weren't planning to attempt her being dry during naps or at night at all.

Did your child do this? Is the potty training going to have the unintended consequence of no more long naps?

Your DC is going to have to ditch naps sooner or later anyway. My eldest stopped napping at 2.5 and my youngest stopped napping completely around 18 months. We didn't potty train either until they were nearly 3.

It's a good thing she is waking up to go to the toilet instead of wetting herself.

This is a pretty typical age for reducing and dropping naps

Some children are dry through naps/nights as soon as they are potty trained. Both mine were and there were both about 2.5. We just put them in pull ups overnight for a very short time in case.

DS still naps sometimes at 3 years old but they are shorter naps and becoming less frequent. We do have occasional wake ups in the night where he is crying and it usually turns out he needs a wee.

Honestly, I count myself lucky that they were dry very quickly - for some children it takes a lot longer (not their fault and not a parenting thing) and causes a lot more stress and worry.

Just two milestones coinciding. Put her on the potty before nap time. Naps tend to shorten and drop sporadically at this age I’ve found.

Thanks everyone. I knew naps would be on their way out sometime but I was hoping she would be one of the kids who still naps when they're 3+ Grin. She's been a good napper since she was about 1 and it's mostly that I feel sorry for her if she's had a short nap and then is clearly exhausted (and correspondingly tantrumy!) later. I do have a few friends whose kids barely napped after the age of 2 although nothing to do with toilet training.

I encourage her to use the potty before a nap but she usually refuses. So far she is very resistant to the idea of having a try and will only pee when she says she needs to.

My LO is 3 and probably naps 2-3 times a week, definitely not linear or consistent.
She also has on occasion woken in the middle of the night asking to use the potty- in my head I’m screaming “just go in your pull up”, but guess she’s making night training super easy for me.

My daughter we potty trained just before two and we went day and night as she was dry sleeping after we introduced the Potty, still in nappies, before wake time dryness. When we decided to Ditch the nappies we did it fully and did a dream wee. So more for night time. About 10pm-3am we 'lifted' her and put her on the potty asleep or almost asleep and she stired slightly, kept her eyes closed, did a wee on potty then straight back to sleep. Worth a try? But might not work at nao time
