Timers for PT?? And a big wee-er...

Hi all

Two parts to this question. My little boy is just over 3 years.

Firstly - I was signed up to the Oh Crap method. Day 1 - naked - pretty high self initiated success rate. Day 2 (today) - just shorts - he went through 8+ pairs of shorts in 4 hours, no successes.

My instinct was telling me it wasn't going to work for him. I tried prompting him but he always refused to go then had an accident. So we set a timer - every 20 mins - and set up a potty next to his for his favourite toys. It's worked a treat and no accidents in 5 hours.

My concern though is he won't know how to self initiate with the timer? And how do I wean him off using it? Have I made this really hard for him?

Second question - he's a big wee-er. Volumes and frequency. I feel like we're going to be getting the potty out constantly if we leave the house. Anyone else got experience of this? He's always drunk a lot. Nappies always been very wet. Nursery have commented on it too - leaks nappy in the day sometimes as it gets overwhelmed and often during night. Anyone with experience of this?

In case this is useful to others in the future...day 2 lunchtime was when we introduced the timer - pretty much perfect for rest of day re accidents and willingness. Day 3 woke up and announced he didn't need the timer - he's taken himself to the potty all day for wees and poops and been 100% successful. We even had a little trip out. So there was no need for me to worry about him self initiating with a timer!
