we potty trained my DD a year ago (summer 2019) and it went really well. Since about Jan/Feb this year (2020) she has constant little accidents. She leaks all the time into her knickers so they're always a little bit wet. Sometimes it is a tiny bit, sometimes it's a lot. She rarely has a full on accident but it does happen occasionally.

We're going through 3-4 pairs of knickers a day beforw I give up and let her go without. She's not constipated; no UTI either.

Any ideas, hints, tips, (gins!) you can recommend to try and get past this?
TIA

Have you taken her to the GP?

RKaz · 18/08/2020 13:33

Yeah. We had her urine dipped for a UTI which came up negative. He examined her belly and didn't feel anything. It was put down to "one of those things" probably because of a routine change. But it's been going on too long to be a chsnge in routine. Worth taking her back?

What do you mean give up and let her go without?

Mary8076 · 18/08/2020 14:02

Is her overweight? Does it happen at night too? Maybe she has a small and/or weak bladder, my DD had it (maybe it has been not the only cause since an ureter problem was diagnosed years later, probably it happened just due to that since doctors found no others physical problems at that time).
I've no many tips, only a pediatric urologists can find the real cause. Despite being young I wouldn't get back to pull-ups (however there would be nothing wrong with it) but incontinence pads could be very helpful, just to reduce the stress and additional work that plays a big role in these situations.

Is it because she is holding on too long as she doesn't want to stop what she is doing to go to the toilet.

I had this with my daughter she would hold on until the last possible minute and then would have slightly damp knickers where she couldn't hold on any longer and then she went to the toilet as she knew otherwise she would wet herself....she just grew out of it.

@ClamDango give up and go without knickers/trousers. Just saves on the washing

@bumblingalongslowly I think maybe this is the problem but I'm not sure. I hope it's something this simple.

We were out and about a few days ago and we had 4 outfit changes because of accidents Confused and then she was absolutely fine for a 2.5 hour car journey. There's no logic...it can be at home or out. First wee of the day or the 5th+

@Mary8076 I don't think she's overweight. Tall for her age but not heavy. She's still in nappies at night.

How often are you reminding her/ asking her to go to the toilet?

My daughter (3.5) does this when she is engrossed in something. It's 'laziness', rather than a medical problem.

In preparation for pre-school I've started drumming into her to go for a wee on a regular basis. At home it's a minimum of before she sits down to eat something (also gets into the routine of washing her hands before eating too).

kmini · 29/08/2020 17:19

We are in a similar situation @Rkaz.

Dd is 3 and there are always trickles. Some days are not so bad but most we have 3-5 per day. She also resists going to do a wee. Everytime it's a battle and the wet pants are often more than trickles (but that's just laziness I feel).

Fortunately fine with poos but wees are a different story. We've been potty training for 6 months and it's so frustrating!!!

No apparent pain or discomfort when going. Do you think I should have it checked at the GP?

RKaz · 30/08/2020 08:59

@kmini this is us exactly!

Suddenly we've had 3 clear days in a row Grin. Not a clue why it changed this week...we've done nothing different so maybe she is growing out of it. I hope so! ( or maybe she knew I was asking on here so decided to switch things up to keep me on my toes 🤣🤣)

I went to the docs to rule out infection...I didn't think she had one as there was no bad smell (sorry tmi). Worth trying maybe before other things.

Ah this sounds so much like us! No tips, we're still in the middle of it 🙈 Has your clear run continued!?

RKaz · 03/09/2020 13:46

@Littlehouseinthebigcity
So far so good! 🤞
Will see if returning to preschool makes any difference.

Leaking can be a sign of constipation . Have you ruled it out ?

mablemaybe · 16/10/2024 19:45

Hi @RKaz not sure if you're still around or if you can even remember 4 years on, but how did this work out for you? Having a very similar problem with my son now.
