I am wondering if anyone has advice on this - we had been Potty training two year old over lockdown whist he was at home, has been independent at using potty at home for wees , but needs us to watch out for signs of poos and get him to the potty - he is not doing this himself , however on returning to nursery he is not clean or dry there and is having multiple accidents a day , they have asked that I don’t send him in pants and send him either in pull ups or nappies . I don’t want to confuse him, should I revert back to pull ups / nappies at home too - and try again in a few months ?

If nursery won't take him your options are keep him in nappies all the time or try and just make that a nursery thing. I think the easiest option would be nappies all the time to be honest. That's not necessarily the best option but likely the easiest. Have you read Oh Crap? There is a section in there about continuing toilet training despite a child needing to wear nappies at nursery - it can be done but it usually takes longer and I suspect some children would find it all too confusing. I imagine it depends how motivated the child is to actually use the potty. If your child is well motivated, at least at home, then there is no reason why they couldn't continue that despite wearing nappies at nursery. However you may find on the other hand that once back in nappies they lose all interest in potty training. It's impossible to second guess his reaction though. Could you try training pants at nursery as a compromise? So he can still feel when he is wet?

Can I ask, how old exactly is your child and how long had you been potty training prior to him going back to nursery? And what are nursery doing to support him in remaining clean and dry?
