Dry by day for over a year but still wearing a nappy at night

Any tips on how to get a 4 year old to be dry through the night?

I have tried bringing him to the toilet about 11pm but he just wants to go back to sleep.

Should I maybe get him up at 6am to go to the toilet.

What worked for others?

I forgot to mention, DM (who is a doctor) always told me that restricting evening drinks is counterproductive as it doesn’t help stretch the bladder and produces concentrated urine that is more likely to irritate the bladder causing accidents.

When I was a child my best friend wore a nappy to bed until she was about 7. No Pull-Ups then. She was matter of fact about it on our first sleepover as her parents had never embarrassed her about it, and although I was not a bedwetter my parents had never done the whole “nappies are for babies” shame thing so I saw her nappy as no different to a pair of glasses for someone who couldn’t see well or a crutch for someone who struggled to walk.

Thanks for all the posts over the last 12 days, I went out and bought the pull-up. He loves them! He feels so grown up.

There is a new boy on the street who he loves playing with so every evening I have taken him out to play instead of the usual routine of milk and chill. He doesn't miss the milk (I think he thinks it is babyish now he has the friend and the pants....) he has been dry 9 of 12 nights. I also figured he might be doing the wee once he wakes up, he lies in bed for ages. Based on the 2 posters comments above I check him every morning and he was dry at 6, but wet when he gets up at 9am. I think I will get him up as soon as I hear him for a week and see if that works!!!
