Hey,

This is my first post, so I appreciate your understanding and patience.

We have been potty training our almost 3 year old for around 4 months now, and we are pleased she has nailed weeing, but still pushing and holding nuggets of poo between her bum cheeks every 30 - 60 minutes or so and not saying anything until we smell it and have to change her. It's been like this for a few months now and we are both exhausted.

Is this common?

We were recommended by our childminder to try laxitives. We give her child-strength twice a day. Doesn't seem to really help.

Any advice gratefully received, as wiping up poo every 30 minutes is becoming out lives now.

Many thanks.

Hey, can anyone give me any advice?

No advice sadly but we're experiencing the exact same thing as she's holding back her poo. We're onto three sachets of laxido a day and have started on senna on the advice of the GP to get things moving so that she doesn't get impacted. It's just the worst isn't it? Wish we'd never started potty training but she's no different if I put a nappy on her so I figure she might as well stay in knickers!

Thank you for replying. It's frustrating. She's happy to let us know her wees. Poos seems to elude her. I am trying prune juice next. Senna is a good shout.

Wish you the best of luck. 👍🏻 😄

Sorry to hear you're struggling with this. Definitely try a different laxative if the one you're using isn't' working. Plant-based fats such as coconut oil, avocado, etc are great, as are the traditional prune juice, prune puree, kiwi, peach.
Sounds like she might be a bit afraid of pooing on the potty, so work on that too and make sure her poos are soft so she doesn't feel pain and associate the potty with a painful bm.

Thank you for your help. Yeah, I fear perform anxiety might have a part to play here. Getting there slowly.

I started a similar thread a while www.mumsnet.com/Talk/parenting/3915502-toddler-poo-withholding-is-going-to-give-me-a-breakdown

We got her pooing by giving her children's movicol until her blockage cleared then bribing her with Peppa pig secret surprise cube toys every time she pooed.

It's now costing me about £4 a shit in rewards but at least she's going

It's bloody stressful, isn't it?!

lisaonline · 03/06/2020 20:35

Hey CatLady, thank you sharing! I applaud your patience and smarts. Glad to hear you have found a method that works for you and your little one! 😊

My little lives the splash it makes when it hits the water. We were making some progress.
