All wee's on potty, dry though the night, poo in pants

I started potty training my son a couple of months ago, he is 3 this month. He has got wee's down perfectly now, takes himself off to the potty, never has an accident etc. He's also been dry through the night since the day he mastered wee on the potty really. The problem is poo! The first couple of weeks he would hold it in, so much so he would be in so much pain with constipation etc. Thankfully he's now stopped that but just poo's in his pants and trousers, no fucks given? 3 times he poo'd in his pants today! Anyone been through the same and have any tips for me?!

My friend let her child ask for a nappy, turned out they preferred standing up to eliminate...

Thanks for the reply. Have tried this, he won't entertain a nappy anymore. He doesn't go off to hide or change position or anything to poop, he'll just do it. Tried the actual toilet, potty in the bathroom, offering reward etc. He's been in the room whilst myself and his sister uses the toilet, he also flushes himself when he was wee so know it's not a fear of the toilet/flushing

It could be impaction - a mass of hardened poo left behind from the withholding and allowing some poo to leak past in an uncontrolled manner. Have a look at the ERIC website.

My DD did similar. We ended up buying her a second potty of a different colour and telling her that was for poos. It worked.

The random thing which worked for my DD was she got pants with fairies on first thing in the morning and, if she did a poo in her pants, was told it made the fairy very sad as she didn't like being covered in poo and none of the other fairies wanted to come out of the drawer and so she had to wear plain pants for the rest of that day. Three days later, she did a poo on the loo and that was it.
I know it sounds utterly random but I posted it on here once before to a lady who'd posted the same thing as you and had a PM a week later to say it had worked with her DD too!
DD's 10 and has no recollection of this so the emotional bribery doesn't seem to have scarred her for life!

That is a fantastic idea! He's got toy story & cars pants so will order some plain pants today and try it 🤞
I tried asking my 5 year old to poop on potty this morning to show him it's not scary etc but she looked at me like I'd just asked her to shit in her hands. Can't blame her for saying no! Was worth a try I suppose Grin

I don't really want to buy another potty if I can help it. I took him to pick his own and obviously he chose the £35 Thomas potty. I'll be damned if I'm spending more £ on a potty now Grin

I just wanted to let you know that we went through this with DD1. We tried absolutely everything. She had constipation from holding it in. In the end we let her sit on the toilet with the ipad. It took a whole year to get her to poo on the potty/toilet. We're going through the same with DD2. This time we're letting her poo in a nappy.
