Potty training & haemorrhoids

My DS will be 3 in June and we decided to use the lockdown as an opportunity to crack potty training. We had a disastrous first week but since then it has been okay although I still question whether he knows when he needs to go. We’ve been doing it since the start so over 3 weeks now. Last week we noticed that he had a small haemorrhoid. We thought it may be due to spending too much time on the potty (as he would often sit on it fir a while) so we encouraged him to get up quicker when he’s finished. It did go away for a few days but the last couple of days he seems to be quite constipated and is pooing frequently throughout the day and it has reappeared again. He is always proud of himself when he does a poo on the potty and therefore likes to really try for a poo and strains quite a bit. His diet is good and he never suffered with this before potty training. I wonder if it something to do with the position he is now sitting in to go for a poo, when in nappies he was almost always standing. It does not seem to be causing him any pain or discomfort and I am scared to take him to GP with everything going on. Has anyone else experienced this and if so any recommendations? I am worried about it getting worse and causing him pain. Thank you in advance.

@Beads38

It sounds like constipation. Usually potty training helps with this because the best position for pooing is in a deep squat. Standing or lying down aren't great, physiologically speaking. Is he using a potty or toilet seat reducer? If the latter, try putting a step stool for his feet so his knees are higher than his pelvis.

I know you said he is pooing frequently, but more than twice a day can be a sign of constipation. What happens is that the colon gets blocked and then softer poos can pass around it, leading to leaks or constant pooing.
