Potty training and speech delay

Hi my ds is 2 and a half and has speech delay due to glue ear when he was younger we are unsure how bad it was but it's really put his speech back, hes very aware of his potty and its kept in the lounge so he can see it, he will sit on it either with clothes on, still wearing his pull ups or bare bummed. Can anyone suggest ways of moving it forward, hes slowly understanding that hes been for a poo and will sometimes hide when hes going, he tries to pull his pull ups down at times and will stick his hands in the back of them. I just need some ideas on how to move on to rhe next stage to progress forwards without pushing him.
Thank you

My DS is 3.5 and has a significant speech delay. We have recently, over Christmas potty trained him. We knew he was physically ready, he hid to poo too, but we're nervous about being emotionally ready and his communication.

We followed the 'Oh Crap' method, I bought the book.

He's done amazingly, exceeded our expectations. Every child is different, and I don't think DS would have been ready before now as his communication has improved a lot recently, matured a lot.

Good luck!

Thank you, I've hears many good things about the oh crap book, I may need to invest in it. Can I ask when did your ds speech start to really develop, my ds knows everything you ask of him like which colour is red and can you find me the ball etc but speech hes just doesn't seem interested. Its strange but I'm actually looking forward to potty training my son he gets embarrassed about people seeing his bits (though insists on pointing them out to me)

It's probably been since he turned 3, started using more words and now putting 2/3 words together, he has a long way to go though.

Have you seen a speech therapist? Does he go to nursery? Him having understanding is good.

Ok it's nice to know my ds isn't the only one. He had a few words but mostly babble that makes no sense but I'm able to guess most of the time as hes pointing to whatever it is hes babbling about. Yes we saw one a few months ago, I'll be taking him back in February to see them again as I'm not sure if his glue ear is coming back again. He goes to nursery 2 days a week and is just moving to preschool next week. His understanding is amazing just the connection to voicing things hasnt clicked.
