Pants on or off? Which method works quicker?

Potty training 2 year 2 month old son on weekend. I've heard both ways one is no pants for two days and staying bare bottom, then pants on day three. Other way is to keep both pants and trousers on from the start, so he can feel it when he wets himself.

I'm confused, but seem to think bare bottom will work quicker?

thanks

thank you @Outnumb3red. put on pull ups during long naps, that's a good tip.

He sits on the potty with the pajamas, is unable to pull them down himself, but hes learning and I think another week or two he will have less accidents,.

Pants on. That way you can teach them how to put them on and off. Expect a lot of washing though lol.

I think initially pants off is better.

They have went every day of their life peeing into a nappy, and suddenly they are now told they need to pee elsewhere. I think the initial focus should be to allow them to learn the sensation of needing a pee without the added complication of trying to get underwear off. Once they know what it feels like to need a pee, then introduce the pants.

that's so true @outnumbered. he's only wearing pajama's because its easier for him to learn how to pull them on and off.

its day 6 with gaps in between wearing pull ups at the childminder's, but so far he's not telling when he needs to pee. He only tells once he's done it in trousers.

today I wrote down all the times he pees. in the mornings he is able to stay dry until after 12. so after about 3 hours pee'd at 12:20. then there were few pees about 1 hour apart.

is putting him on potty every hour a good idea?

I’ve recentlt started potty training my
Son as he copied the other kids at nursery and was showing sign he wears pants and trousers in the house and tells me when he needs to go. He will wee and poo on potty. How did you go about the public? Like do I keep him in pills ups?

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 17/12/2019 21:16

@Leahstars I used pull ups originally, sitting DD in every toilet we came across (e.g. popping into M&S specifically to use the loo 🙈) and then once she was more reliable/ going longer stretches between wees we went for it with a travel potty with us (Potette - not great for environment but fab for emergencies) for when there wasn't a toilet near enough. Make sure you take spare clothes too though!!

Thankyou 🤗

It doesn't sound like he's ready to me. Is there any reason you need to train him this early?

mumznet · 26/12/2019 17:58

he's two and two months now, I don't want him to be three and in nappies. that's why starting now. it was put on hold in between because he hasn't been well with a bad cold, but continuing again in new year

thank you all, hope its working out for you if you're potty training!

My twins are just turned three and we are potty training now. Id rather they start late because that's when they're ready. Whats the point in pushing an only just two year old? There's no rush. They'll all get there in the end. I can't see that your child is giving you any signs that he is ready to train.

mumznet · 27/12/2019 23:33

twins that's is so sweet. lucky you.

i think you're right no signs yet. i will Give it a go and if doesn't workout after a week I'll have to give up and wait..
