need foldable step stool for changing bag - impossible to find

So, I spent this weekend getting DS 2, who is 3 years 1 month, to get used to the toilet. Main reason being is that I was sick and tired of carrying the potty everywhere. Sigh.

It's been going reasonably well - helped by the tablet with Thomas or Paw Patrol on and lots of sweets (I know....). He is quite happy to use the toilet at home, with a fairly high stepping stool in front of it (approx. 21 cm) - it helps him support his weight on the toilet and actually focus on the wee rather than 'holding on'. Unfortunately, he completely refuses the toilet insert for toddlers.

Unfortunately,, that stepping stool is to big to carry around - and this is precisely what I wanted to avoid. We have a lower one which would fit in a bag pack, but that is too low for him.

Have googled high and low for a foldable stepping stool this afternoon, one that is not massively big and will fit a standard back pack. No success! Any tips?

Carrying a potty and step sounds like so much hassle can't you just be persistent and hold him on the toilet? That's what I do with my 3 year old who only uses potty at home I couldn't be bothered carrying a big pile of stuff. How often does he need to go when you are out anyway?

Can’t you just lift him on, and keep hold of him? I’d want to avoid carrying around anything that’s been on a public toilet floor.

Agree with PPs, this is such a short phase, just hold him.

If you aren't squeamish about kneeling on the floor he can put his feet on your thighs

We did standing up weed from potty training. He used to stand on my feet.

I agree, it's just a short phase of potty training, not something you need to invest in a piece of equipment for.

There's a plastic folding stepstool in Home Bargains for under a fiver. I think similar in Ikea. That was about a year ago. I keep it in a kitchen cupboard.. It is quite stable.

Can you try lifting him on so he's facing the other way and can hold onto the cistern?

I just hold onto DD and tell her to focus on her wee if she’s distracted.

The thing I do often wish I had step for is for her washing her hands. I wish more public toilets had a small toilet and a low sink for little people.

Thanks all! Unfortunately, my boy is a stubborn one. Won't be held for love nor money. No stand up wees either despite older brother demonstrating. He would shower the toilet anyway as no sense of direction...

I'd be very cautious. My sis got my kids a folding step for her house and it was a real finger trap hazard. My youngest pinched her self, but could have been nasty.

We had a foldable toilet seat before being ready to hold on/balance on the normal toilet. Fit in the change bag. Maybe an option?
