Potty training

Is it mad to go back to pull-ups 6 months after we cracked it?

We trained DS quite early (just turned 2) as he was showing lots of signs of readiness and he got it pretty quickly with no more than an occasional accident. He’s now 2 1/2 and suddenly it has like he has forgotten everything - accidents 5 or 6 times a day. This has been going on for 3 weeks and if anything is getting worse.

I don’t know whether to put him back in pull-ups or whether that is crazy and we just have to ride it out. Nursery are being accommodating but he’s getting through 3-4 changes of clothes a day easily.

Could something be unsettling him? Is there a new routine? Is he getting enough sleep? Or has be been poorly recently, small chance of a water infection? I wouldn't rush to put him back in, if he got it quickly then he knows what to do.

He’s started nursery in the last fortnight but the regression started before that. We had just come back from holiday which had obviously knocked our routine out bit.

Actually thinking about it he started having a few accidents in the weeks before that, and then since we got back from holiday he’s lost it completely.

Might be best to try and concentrate on it again, as if you're going back to the start. Could you have a quiet weekend where you can just get on it , with praise ect?

How is he when he has an accident? Is he okay with it, or starting to get upset about it, or even upset when thinking about it?

We’ve done a couple of revision weekends with our son. After his brother was born obviously but also had a little regression after a cold etc. Just be extra vigilant with reminders for a couple of days or even go back to bare bottom or knickers depending on how you trained originally. He also liked a sticker chart for a couple of days to get the habit back.

He sometimes wees and ignores that it’s happened. Or he tells me that he needs a wee and 2 seconds later he has weed everywhere. Sometimes he complains about the wetness immediately after it had happened but the fact of the accident itself doesn’t seem to concern him.

Nope, definitely don't revert back to nappies. Chances are it's a phase he's going through and I think going back to nappies will undo all the hard work you've already done.

My dd is 5 and still has loads of accidents at school. The school told me to start sending her in in pull ups and I rang the health visitor and she said absolutely do not do that. The worst thing you can do is move backwards with this situation.

For Somanyquestions19 - does school do a toilet training chart for her? We do one at home and school do one but its hit and miss at home sometimes and at school some days - we have good days and bad days, we have to remind her a lot. Have you spoken to the doctor at all? I'm quite tempted to see what they say abour my daughter as there are bladder & bowel clinics at hospitals for children to attend if your wanting any tests to be done. I wish my daughter would hurry up and get the hang of it xx
