Subject title says it all really... what signs told you it was the right time? Thanks

For us, it was being dry for 2/3 hours when wearing a nappy then releasing on the potty, and having dry nappies over naps. There were no cues (verbal or otherwise) when we started for wees.

Hi, same as the poster above - our son started having dry nappies for longer periods. We kept a potty in the room for him to get used to and started regularly sitting him on there for wees to see how he would get on. He soon got it (took a lot longer with poos!) but it’s cracked now, he’s very good at telling us when he needs to use it. He’s 2 years and 7 months now. Been accident free for about 3 weeks now 🤞🏻

Mine started taking her nappy off. Anywhere! Hmm
Also waking up dry.

I didn't wait for any signs - I let my son run around naked, so that he's able to actually notice when he pees and can connect the feeling he has during and before peeing to what's coming out of him.
If he starts to notice when he needs to pee, he's ready. He was 20 months old then (or maybe not quite) and was obviously ready. Took a few days - but not because he needed those days to notice and be able to hold back for little while (he could do that after the first puddle on the floor), but because he was scared of the potty ;)

Dd basically told me not to put a nappy on her Hmm so I didn’t! To be completely honest, nursery did the majority of it which was excellent because I was dreading it. She got it in 3 days and hasn’t had any accidents for a couple of weeks. She’s 2.5 so quite an average age.

She still isn’t nighttime trained, but I think that’s hormone related rather than something you can train iyswim.

With DS, we had a long weekend of trying, and him not really getting it. But it planted the seed and about a fortnight later he asked for pants, and was dry night and day, wees and poos within a few days. He was 2yrs 8mnth. I was hospitalised with HG for much of the previous few months, so we didn’t try before then.

With DD she announced “pants today”, when she was 2yrs 3months and was toilet trained in 48 hrs. We skipped potties, age was tall enough for the toilet.

Mine said wee wee and yes when I offered the toilet. She sat on it and weed. I was v surprised.
My elder son had been interested in the toilet and had weed in it. So I took 3 days off and used the Oh Crap book xx

DS started getting upset when he’d pooed in his nappy. He turned to me one day, made a sad face and said ‘poo poo’.

I told him then that we wouldn’t use nappies any more and he should go in the potty. He’s only had one accident since then and that was about eight weeks ago now. We don’t use the potty any more either.

FartnissEverbeans · 28/07/2019 01:51

Meant to say, he’s 2y 9m now.

My daughter is 21 months and I have the potty out for her to see and become familiar with. Would anyone say this is too young as she isnt necessarily showing signs of wanting to use it apart from sitting on it saying "pssss" then clapping her hands. We go on holiday in 6 weeks so thought it may be more helpful if she isnt in nappies by then as we also have an 8 week old! Thanks in advance

If she's showing no signs, and if you haven't tried her without nappies for a few days, I would say maybe she isn't quite there yet. If you take off her nappies and put her in pants and see how she takes to it, that would be a better indication.

@Demimac1919 According to Oh Crap book which I've just used the whole waiting for them to be interested in the potty thing is misleading and you shouldn't even have it out before you start training as it's confusing. When you're ready to train you spend a day at home with them naked watching their every move and putting them on the potty every time they start weeing. It's just worked really well for my 23 month old, three days in and he is using toilet and potty fine. I know every kid is different though
