Pull ups for long journeys

Hi,

We’ve just completed a very successful (1 accident!) second day of toilet training with my two year old. We go away next week and our flight is 5 hours.. my question is, would it set her back to put her in a pull up?
I’m thinking of explaining it to her that she needs to wear a pull up in case she goes to sleep but if she needs the toilet to still let us know.
Any advice welcome, thank you! Xxx

I'd say that is a reasonable plan. Especially if she is still in pull ups for sleep anyway. Perhaps encourage her to still go for a wee when she needs it as well so as not to lose momentum?

Has she worn pull ups before?

Mine hadn't so we sold them as 'special' pants which she bought and didn't even twig they were a nappy. Some brands are quite lightweight and more pant like than nappy like.

Thank you, we were hoping she would treat them like knickers.
Really good idea, perhaps I could convince her they’re ‘aeroplane knickers’ 😂
She hasn’t worn pull ups yet as we went from nappies to knickers and she’s still in nappies at night as I haven’t got any pull ups yet.
Just didn’t want to be making her take a step back, especially as she’s doing so well and she’s only just been two. But I think she should be ok.
Thanks for your advice x

Just say they are pants for holidays, alternatively buy reuseable pull ups

I had to fly with my DD a few weeks into potty training. I did put a nappy on her just before we boarded (used the just in case she fell asleep) but still carried on taking her to the loo as we would have done normally. She didn't wee in the nappy at all and we took it off as soon as we were through security on the other side.

We had similar, flight not long after starting potty training. I did put a pull up on him for the flight but I put it on top of his pants. So it was there in case of accidents but not instead of pants. Took him to the loo as normal and he didn’t have any accident - though we did get told off by the flight crew for getting up before the seatbelt signs had been switched off but they said we could go when I explained he couldn’t wait!

Hi, every year our family fly to Spain to see family.. our two kids are 2 and 4. I do put a nappy on our 4yr old for the flight as you never know a) if they are gonna fall asleep and wet b) i don’t know about your kids but mine do get nervous when flying and c) if they need to go desperately and the toilet is busy or there is turbulence. We always do it to be on the safe side less worrying and hassle. My 4yr old wears them at night so she knows she needs them.. I would try to change it before you land though as we have made that mistake and they have had to walk through the airport with full nappies... we did actually result to doing it in the terminal as their wasn’t any changing toilets lol. Have a good holiday!!

Thank you everyone for your advice. We will definitely use pull ups and tell her they’re aeroplane pants. She will also have to wear swimming nappies in the pool when she goes swimming so hopefully she will understand. Xx

Well I'm the first to admit that I never enjoy the sudden panic when my girls (aged 4 and 5) need us to pull over now!! That is why we use pull ups for car jouneys over an hour or where we know we can't stop with ease. I would much rather they could just go and pull over to change as soon as reasonable rather than have to be in a panic mode.. I mean that's not relaxing at all and most of the time that is what we drive away to do :) I hope you have a chilled out easter break and just make sure your little one knows they are emergency flight only pants for big kids :D x
