How do you start night training?

My daughter still wees so many times during the night, and still wears a nappy.
Have been potty training for about a month, and doing very well during the day. She can tell me when she needs to go and she can hold on for a little while now.

But she wees so many times during the night, she will be waking up non stop to pee!
Is it just a case of waiting til she is doing less at night or do I actually need to do something?
She also has water during the night which I know really isn't helping.

What age is she? I waited for dry morning nappies tbh

funnystory · 31/01/2019 21:47

As far as I know, night time weeing is mainly biological so you just have to wait until it stops naturally, which can be up to a year or two after they've been potty trained during the day.

Popskipiekin · 31/01/2019 21:49

Fairly sure you don’t night train. Hormonal balance has to sort itself out. Still waiting for our 4.4 year old who fully day time trained maybe 20 months ago. I’ve seen on MN it’s faidlh normal to still be in nighttime pull ups until 6-8, I wouldn’t sweat it.

You can't train night time dryness. Wait for a few nights of dry nappies then see how it goes

PMmehunx · 31/01/2019 22:01

She's 2 and a half. God, so could be another year, likely more, of changing nappies. I didn't expect that. I really thought once they were fine during the day, it took a couple of months and they were fine at night too haha.

If she fine on day and only weeing in night it s not a big deal...nappy on at night a nd off in the morning.

BlueUggs · 31/01/2019 22:05

You have to wait for the body to produce the hormone that stops them wanting to wee at night. All kids are different.

MynameisJune · 31/01/2019 22:06

Is she leaking through nappies at night? If not I wouldn’t faff about changing them. DD is 3, most nights is dry but if she drinks before bed she will wee at night. She wears a pull up, has it on all night. Never had an issue with soreness or anything.

dementedpixie · 31/01/2019 22:10

It can take some kids up to age 7/8 to be dry at night. Some are dry at night not long after daytime dryness

Hermie12 · 31/01/2019 22:15

My daughter has only just started to be dry at night at 4yrs 3 months . She was potty trained in the daytime before she was 2. At night when they are ready it clicks

Dimedollar · 31/01/2019 22:22

Yep no training required, just wait it out, otherwise it could all be very stressful with lots of washing!

Ds got potty training very quickly, but his night time nappies were filled every night for about another 18 months, then suddenly one morning it was dry. Tried him without that night and never needed one again.

waxygoodness · 31/01/2019 22:27

It is a hormone thing and can last until they are 7 or so. Drinking lots or fluid through the day does really help but other than that, just see how it goes.

PMmehunx · 31/01/2019 22:32

I honestly had no idea it was remotely linked to hormones. That's really interesting.

She does ask some nights to keep her pants on, so I think she might want to try.. Or maybe it's just because she's still excited about the fact that she wears pants. Either way, maybe I'll try pull ups instead of nappies so she can still feel like a "big girl"

And yes, she will leak through her nappies if left, so I need to change her about 2 times usually. I honestly don't know how she goes to the toilet so many times during the day and still has 2-3 full nappies at night.

DD started potty training at 2.6 and only started night time training one year later- I stopped the night time milk completely a few months before and we were having a few dry nappies and 100% dry naps and one day she refused to put a nappy on fully stop, so that was that!

SpeedyBojangles · 31/01/2019 22:35

I've been wondering the same thing myself so interesting to read the responses on here. DD1 was dry at night before she was 3. Still waiting for DD2 who is almost 4. Just been waiting for dry nappies in the morning as we did with DD1 but it's just not happening.

HauntedPencil · 31/01/2019 22:35

Yes agree with all previous posts, I just stopped putting pull ups on at night when they'd been dry each morning a while.

It's only really wee she should wake up for a poo.

Much easier than changing wee sheets in the night though so I'd hang on

Sparrowlegs248 · 31/01/2019 22:40

Wait for dry nappies. Or take them off and start waking her to see. I'd wait for dry nappies though. My son potty trained at 2yrs 8 months, really quickly. Was still soaking and leaking night nappies the week before, but on day 4 woke up with a dry nappy.

Fireballfriends · 01/02/2019 07:52

Which nappies are you using? Pull-ups don't take much liquid but you can get some more absorbent night nappies for older children that shouldn't leak. And yes to cut down night milk.

My DD1 potty trained at 2.10, not dry at night till 5.5 (sorry!). Nappies were very full in morn. She kept asking to ditch them but if she didn't wear them she wet the bed each time. Then one night I let her go without and she's been fine ever since. I think the hormone thing must be true.

DD2 potty trained at 2.5 and was dry at night straight away.

I didn't night train either of them it just happened, I think you probably just have to wait unfortunately. Good luck. Everyone's favourite parenting stage!!!

Fireballfriends · 01/02/2019 07:53

(Forgot to say DD2 had dry nappies in morn almost as soon as she started potty training)
