Now. I'm potty training my son in a public toilet we go in I'm talking to my son " hold your willy still aim down. Good boy. Right. Do a dab wipe the seat good boy" you get the jist he stands to wee after he wees we get some tissue dab his willy no drips wipe the seat be polite job done. Anyway as we are washing our hands another mom says to me "he sounds very clever" I was surprised anyway after a bit of chatting she said that using the word willy with a 2 year old was a bit too "much" and grown up I said well no not really that's what it is when it's he starts school I'll change it to his penis she was in utter shock as children shouldn't use such adult words. They aren't adult words it's what they are thoughts ??

I just call my son fireman Sam and tell him to aim the hose at the hole 🤷‍♀️

BertramKibbler · 11/11/2018 18:47

Why are you telling us all what your son calls his genitalia?

onlygirlinthehome · 11/11/2018 19:04

No I can't explain it properly I was talking to my son in private a lady started chatting to us saying willy was a grown up word to use with a 2 year old. And I said no not really and when he starts school he will use the correct and proper name a penis.
I'm asking what people think is the word willy to grown up for a young child. Others use words like winkie

I would find it MASSIVELY weird if someone struck up a conversation with me about what my children call their genitals.

onlygirlinthehome · 11/11/2018 19:08

She wasn't a weirdo she had a small boy her self she overheard me talking to my son all the point was the word willy been a bit too grown up

Penis. I was listening to a radio 4 programme a while back that had experts pleading with parents to just use anatomically correct words instead of all the different "nick names". Arm is an arm, leg is a leg, penis is a penis, and vulva a vulva. Saying we shouldn't feel uncomfortable about calling body parts what they actually are and it helps massively with medical isdues and safeguarding discussions.

SparklesAndUnicorns · 18/11/2018 21:28

Why would you start up a conversation with a stranger about what your kid names their privates!? She sounds super weird I would have been making a mad dash for the door if someone was listening in to me taking my child to the loo and then discussing it with me afterwards. I would not care if she was another mum or not it's an inappropriate conversation, can't believe she was shocked about the word willy when she was having this conversation in the first place with you whom is an absolute stranger.

MashNpeas · 18/11/2018 21:35

I find it irritating there isn't a nickname that's 'child friendly' for vulva - I know it's best practice to call it penis and vulva / vagina but I wish there was a female version of willy - so so many different variations whereas willy is universally known and accepted!

April45 · 18/11/2018 22:22

We use willy didn't even give it a second thought for us it is perfectly child friendly 😊

onlygirlinthehome · 21/11/2018 14:07

At the time I didn't think it was strange but after a while when I got home and thought about it I thought it was weird why i wrote on here I think willy is fine for a small child and when he goes to school I will be telling him it's a penis

Willy and Fanny for us. They learn penis/vagina etc as they grow older but we don't use them typically. They rarely need to use these terms outside of the family so what does it matter if other people use other words.
