Cloth nappies

Hey! Not sure if this the right forum but I'm expecting our first in January and I'm strongly geared towards going cloth. I've read up a lot already on the ups and downs, snaps Vs hook and loop.

I'm somewhat torn between the more expensive brands like tots bots and the cheaper ones like Alvababy. The initial investment is rather big and we have some money to throw but not as much as we'd like.

Fwiw I think a lot of it comes down to fit, and it's not always just that the most expensive is best. If you have a look for a cloth nappy library locally you could try a few and find one you like and fits well, then invest in a few. Or try eBay for a few second hand if you don't have a local library. My two favourites were a BumGenius Elemental and a cheapy unbranded from eBay, they just fitted my long skinny child the best.

I started using cloth nappies when my dc was 8 months old (very small baby and needed micro nappies for months so I found disposables easier). I used the nappy lady questionnaire to find out which nappies would be recommended for my dc body shape and size. I found this really useful.

Cloth nappies can be very expensive when starting out so I joined a few cloth nappy groups on Facebook to buy some preowned nappies to test fit and ease of use. This has saved d me a lot of money and is also more environmentally sustainable.

If it helps I have been using a two part system of motherease sandys nappies and motherease air wraps which I love. If you don't have a nappy library (I don't have one near me) then I would recommend buying some preowned to try out first, if you don't get on with those ones you can always sell them on.
