Should I pack in potty training?

Have been potty training DD (2.2) for the past 7 weeks. Broadly following Oh Crap method, hence starting early.

Sometimes I feel it's going well, but often not. I've concluded that if I prompt her to go to the potty, and she does, then her
bladder's empty and she manages until the next time I prompt her.

But then that feels like she's not 'trained' but just emptying on command, rather than knowing she needs to go.

And when she refuses to go, then her bladder's not empty and she has an accident.

So Friday, in a friend's house, refused to wee after her nap and then weed on the sofa. And the twice more on the floor (later in the afternoon).

Yesterday, she did try for a wee after an activity we did in the morning, and nothing came. But then we went for lunch and she did an ocean of wee in the high chair.

So I'm thinking - she's not ready. I went for it too early. Cos I just don't see any signs of self-initiating.

DP thinks we can't possibly back out now.

What say you, wise people?

Stop. Let her be ready before trying again.

Of course you can back out. It sounds miserable at the moment. 7 weeks!! My DD was late-ish to potty training but she was bone dry in about 5 days. Chuck a pull up on your child and try again in about 6 months or when they start asking for the loo.

(Is your DH responsible for all the washing it generates on a daily basis??)

My mum told me you should never stop after you've started.

Yeah, cheers mum. That resulted in over 2 years of wet clothes for ds1.

All that packing it in for 6 months would have done was saved me a bunch of washing.

You can still get her to sit on the potty at set times if she's in pull-ups.

I'd back out and wait a few months. I tried potty training my dc at 2.6 and he had accidents and struggled with it so we went back to nappys. I tried again at 3 and bingo! He was dry within a day and it was a breeze compared to the first time.

If i was you i would go back shes only 2.2 so you have a while yet, go back to nappies. When she starts to know she needs to go/ tells you maybe you could try again. But shes still quite young and it sounds like she isnt quite getting the hang of it. Maybe keep a potty in her room and in the bathroom so its their if she wants it. Do you use pull ups or nappies?
