Bed wetting 6 year old

Hi!
My 6 year old girl still wets the bed regularly.
She finds it distressing and I am at my wits end.
We have tried....
Lifting her( have heard isn’t a good idea though)
Waking her to go to toilet ( results in tired child as takes ages to re settle)
Restricting drinks 1hr before bed ( no effect)
Encouraging more fluids in day ( she is at school, I can’t make her. However we are on holiday atm and I have been ensuring she drink plenty of clear, uncarbonated, no caffeinated liquid and it makes no difference)
Checked she’s not constipated ( she’s not, very reguar)
I want to put her back in pull ups- but she won’t as she thinks they are for babies and her 4 year old little brother had been dry at night since he was 3
What next?
My husband is convinced it’s normal and therefore I shouldn’t stress about it or take her to the Drs- but it’s upsetting her and me. I don’t get cross with her. She just doesn’t like waking up covered in cold wee. Who would?
What should I try?

I have had a similar problem with my 6yo. He was dry at night from 3.5 but has relapsed spectacularly since March.

Not much help but we’re now on the waiting list for the specialist bedwetting clinic.

Has she ever been dry?

Have you tried a bed wetting alarm? My ds is nearly 6 and still in pull ups at night. He often has accidents during the day too. I’ve just started lifting him when I go to bed but he still wakes up wet. I’m going to try the bed wetting alarm this week too.
Are you sure she’s not constipated? My friends dd is 12 and still wets at night. She thought she wasn’t constipated as she went daily but an X-ray showed she was quite impacted.
Finally have you looked on the ERIC website? Lots of info on there.

Hi Op,

We had the same with my DS I would spend every morning stripping beds and washing sheets, we tried everything you have then we bought a bed wetting alarm from amazon, within 4 days he was dry. It was the best thing we ever bought.

My son wet the the bed until he was 7, nearly 8. I don't think the gp will do anything until they are 7.
We did all that you have as well as night time medication. We eventually went back to a different dr as luck would have it who, as well as night time meds, gave him medicine for the day. This stuff calmed his bladder down as he thought he might have a sensitive/irritable bladder (ds could not hold his wee in and when he had to go he really had to go). This worked for us and virtually straight away he was dry at night and was only only the meds for a short while.
It might be worth a visit to the gp if only to reassure your daughter.

Thanks for responses. Will have to go to gp I think. Has anyone had experience of it just stopping in it’s own? Or is the fact it’s gone on for so long an indication it isn’t going to stop on it’s own?

In our area you can refer yourself to bedwetting clinic. They take kids from 5.

We went when DS was 7 and he was put on waiting list for bed alarm (i was hoping for drugs)... but he sorted it himself.
It took weeks but went from every night wetting, to every second, to once a week...then done over three months.

I think it was just the expectation from everyone it was possible..and the nurse gave him tips. We did it over Summer so the washing was easy.

It is quite normal at her age.

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 31/07/2018 16:38

Definitely ask for a referral.

Meantime, I’ve downloaded an app called ‘Drydawn’ to try and track if there are any patterns to the wetting.

I also found a waterproof duvet cover to go under the duvet cover so at least I don’t have to wash the actual duvet every time,
