Anyone want to join me for a spot of potty training camaraderie?

Started yesterday with DS (3) and we are having the expected ups and downs.

Day 1 - bare bottom at home was the aim. One wee all over the floor and a big one considering he had done several wees on the potty. DH kept saying helpful things like "don't climb on me, because you have a bare bottom" which I felt was a bit mean considering it was us insisting he had one! So I let him put some trousers on to go in the garden (if only it was warmer), cue a poo accident in the trousers. We had to drive to my parents mid afternoon so put a nappy on for the car as he tends to fall asleep. He didn't want to take the nappy back off but once he got over the trauma of that he used the potty again and was good until bedtime.

Day 2 - suggested that we could just put another nappy on when the night time one came off, but no tantrum. Reluctant to use the potty but did do a couple of wees. Had to take mum to the supermarket, he held it until right at the end and then did a huge wee in his trousers, right after I had spent 5 mins in the baby change trying to convince him to sit on the potty, which he flat out refused -head/wall-

Back to my mums, still refusing to sit on the potty and wet his trousers again while stood next to it and promptly after did a poo on the carpet while bottomless. Bribed him to sit on the potty before we left using chocolate buttons and he did a wee. Nappy again for the car as he hated sitting on the puppy pad to and from the supermarket. Bottomless once home and no accidents at all! Several wees and one poo on the potty, mostly unprompted.

It's a shame we had to leave home over the 2 days but he definitely has the idea and hopefully we can crack trousers over the next couple of days.

I used the oh crap book as a starting point but have had to adapt to our circumstances (and I'm totally using smarties as rewards, screw this no rewards malarkey!)

Anyone want to join me for a few weeks -months- of potty training fun?

I'm in!

Eight days in and while we are getting there, still not 'there'. DD knows to use the loo but she panics and freezes when she's on it (but refuses the potty) and still having accidents. Dreading today as am on my own with her and the baby, not sure I have the patience!

I read Oh Crap too. Some useful advice in it but it wasn't for us. Tbh I found her tone very judgemental, DD is 2 years 10 months so once I'd read the book a few months ago I panicked and tried it straight away before DD was ready, because the book is so against later potty training. Really wish I hadn't!

I'm persevering but it's been very hard work, I had no idea how hard it would be!

Good luck for today...

Hello! Can I join?

DS is nearly 3 and previous potty training attempts resulted in having to get the sofa professionally cleaned Blush
He will sit on the toilet on his seat and declare "all gone" even though nothing is there.

I don't know if I should wait until it's warmer as I just don't know how to wee proof the sofa and can't afford another cleaning bill Confused

She put me in a panic about it being too late too, until I remembered that she is just one person who has written a book!

I put a nappy on him for a group this morning as I couldn't stand a huge accident but then got another tantrum about taking it off so won't do it again (was going to use a pull up but he was adamant he wouldn't wear one)

A couple of wees on the potty today otherwise and a poo in his pants as I was typing, but he came and told me straight away, which is massive progress compared to just sitting in it when he was in nappies.

Would a towel on the sofa not save it from the worst of any accidents? With a puppy pad under the towel perhaps?

Day 3 yesterday and he did well after the poo in his pants right until bathtime and then weed on the floor while it was running, there was already a wee in the potty though and he seems quite particular about it being empty so that plus being tired probably explain it.

Day 4 today, his first day at nursery in pants and he did it until 3.15 when he wet himself in the garden, then a poo in his pants after dinner and a wee accident when we got home. Lesson learnt to put him on the potty when we get home even if he doesn't think he needs it.

I think I need a poo plan though, while he has done a few in the potty while naked they have mostly been in his pants. I know it's early days so not worrying yet but if anyone has any pearls of wisdom for it I'll consider any ideas.

Hope your first day with toddler in pants and baby was OK! It was my first day of the same but the only real challenge of it for me was not going out in the afternoon (to give him more practice time) as he gets a bit stir crazy and DD gets bored now she is a little older

Day 5 and 6 at nursery he had no accidents!

Day 7 with me and I lost count of the number of accidents. Some of them immediately after saying he didn't need the potty. He did use the potty in the toilet of a coffee shop twice though, so some progress.

Visiting family with a slightly older child today and no accidents! One poo that didn't quite wait until he reached the potty but it was so close.

We are planning a whole day out tomorrow... Wish me luck!

How are you both getting on? I'm finding all of us more tired than normal, I think the mental strain is more than you expect
