How long did you stay home for?

My 2.3 year old DD is showing all the signs of being ready for potty training - asks to wee in potty (although doesn't always actually wee when on it), long gaps between wees, likes sitting on potty and also taking on and off pants and leggings. We and nursery have bee encouraging her to sit on potty at each nappy change.
So, it looks like it's time to ditch the nappies in the daytime. How many days did you have to stay home to do this before you felt reasonably confident going out? She is at home four days straight, then nursery for three days each week. Nursery supportive but not sure if it's a good idea for her to be there on one of the very early days of potty training.

Had thought the five days at home over Easter weekend would be a good opportunity but we usually go to church on three of those days so it's probably not very practical?!

I didn’t I had another child we went out from day one with a portable pottete and a bag of clothes I just popped him on the potty at regular intervals. He was 2.4

Actually in the house - one day. From day 2 we went for little walks, bike ride etc.

IMO sitting through church is asking a bit much to ask. I'd personally do it for 4 days she's with you and then send her to Nursery.

Have you read Oh Crap?

We did about a day but Dd was slightly older. I made sure she was 100% ready as had a younger one keeping me on my toes.

Agree with tea that church may be too much, you'll be constantly worrying about it you won't be able to enjoy the service. Good luck!

I didn’t. He went to nursery everyday. He quit wearing a nappy at nursery (same age as your child is), and I took him home on the bus hoping he wouldn’t wee! He didn’t :)

I made sure he went to the toilet before and after travelling somewhere, and it seemed to work. I did still use nappy back-up for long journeys though, and it didn’t confuse things - it was fairly straightforward.

I don't recall staying in at all with my first. My second is almost ready to start wearing pants and we will just cart the potty and plenty of spare clothes around with us for a few days (hoping its as straightforward as last time!)

I just put pull ups on them when we went out. When they could reliably tell me BEFORE they did it that they wanted a wee, then I went out without the pull up.

I didn't begin training till mine were almost three and both were very articulate so it only took about a week from start to finish.

Thank you people! Sounds like I shouldn't worry about staying at home for ages either.

Church should be ok - the children's Good Friday service is very informal and I have a pottette - no one would mind her using it, I think. Could give the Saturday service a miss. Saw another mum/toddler with a pottette at the main Sunday service a few years ago and nobody batted an eyelid. I was just worried that we'd be guaranteed lakes of wee and I'd end up mopping the entire church floor Confused

Unlikely to be the whole floor! Grin

Personally I'd still do it before Easter weekend so that you've got 4 clear days. Then enjoy the Easter weekend a bit more. It'll be on your mind for a few months yet but the first few days can be intense.

And definitely read the book! Wink

We didn't really stay in just used pull ups until he could tell us he needed to go instead of he was already weeing Grin
