DD only doing 1 wee in a day?

I began potty training DD (aged 2y6m) yesterday, after a couple of weeks practising sitting on the potty at nappy changes. She had 3 wee accidents on the floor and managed 2 wees in the potty. She wore a nappy at nap time, which was wet when I took it off, and again at bed time, which was wet and soiled this morning when she woke up at 8am. She did 1 wee on the potty this morning at 11am, then she had a nappy on for her afternoon nap (1-3pm) which was very wet when she woke up, then no more wees before she went to bed at 7.15pm. She did sit on the potty about once an hour throughout the day when she was awake, but apart from at 11am, she didn't do anything. She has been eating and drinking normally, and the heavy nappies after sleeping show she isn't dehydrated. Should I be worried about this? Should she be weeing more regularly? Her nappies were never dry for more than 2 hours when she was wearing them all day. She gets lots of praise for sitting on the potty, and even more plus a sticker on her chart and a smartie when she produces anything, so the incentive is there.

Hi, I'm having a similar problem with my DS, although he is about a year older than your DD. I tried potty training him earlier but it did not work. However, this last week has been much more successful. A few accidents in the first couple of days but then I noticed he wasn't having a wee nearly all day. Although he was telling me he needed a Wee, he would go to potty, but nothing. Then around late afternoon he will have a wee. He has nappy on at night still which is wet in the morning. I'm a bit concerned going nearly all day without a wee is not good for him. Sorry not much help to you ... but looking for any advice on a similar problem.

Sounds like she is holding it in, which shows she has good bladder control anyway. Maybe try putting a nappy in the potty as this might encourage her? Or even putting the nappy on her and then sitting her on the potty at first and see if she goes then. I think a lot of toddlers are a bit freaked out by the potty at first so a gradual switch over could help?

Thanks Identity1, it's good to know we're not alone, and thanks Dangermouse1, I will try the nappy in the potty idea, it could just be she's a bit freaked out by the potty as you suggested. X

Just a quick update 2 weeks in and DS doing very well. Lots of wees on the potty during the day at home - not as many at nursery though but at least not going all day anymore. Just need to tackle the other end now!! Reluctant to do a poo on potty, asks for nappy if he needs one, or like tonight tells me when he has already had the accident in his pants !!! Keep persevering !!

Thanks for the update... my DD is now doing 5 or 6 wees a day in the potty at home and at nursery, which is amazing!! She has a bit of a poo issue too, she just waits until she's in a nappy at nap or bed time then poos in it. I think it's quite common with number 2s though... like you say, if we keep them motivated and trying, they'll get there eventally. X

Ah brill glad OP, glad you've had progress too. we try and beat the day before's number of wees lol.!! Not so much in reality for me just something to keep him motivated. Yep still the issue with poos -- Still doing it in his pants and not telling me !! But I think you're right and nursery have also said takes a bit longer with them.
